"there is too much traffic on the roads and that helping that with flow will only increase traffic on the roads"

If only your 'expert' friend could persuade his employers(?) (and everyone else) that this is true.

It would help if Govs didn't keep giving into the 'there is a demand, so we must build more roads' nonsense.

Fortunately (generally) there is much less scope for more/bigger roads in urban areas.

So more 'understanding' that there are too many vehicles trying to move (or clogging up the sides of the road), choose to be part of the problem - or not.

There's not much chance of 'buying' a way out of the problem - and generally those causing the problem are unwilling to pay for solutions.

Segregated cycle infrastructure (well designed/in right place) is actually part of the solution. So far there is the political will to do it.

    After May, who knows?

"So now it's all the fault of "internet delivery vans". Nothing at all to do with single occupant motor vehicle commuting, motorised school runs, or driving to the corner shop for milk and ciggies."

Well yes but, the problem is the straw/camel back point.

There are undoubtedly more vans - many internet shopping related - but not balanced by fewer car trips to real shops, so infrastructure overload (conveniently called traffic jams).

People who habitually drive, by themselves, particularly at 'rush hour' are a minority. They are currently commandeering a disproportionate amount of resources (not just road space) and expect even more.

Ought to be politically possible to point this out and say 'we will now be doing more to address this imbalance'.

Transform Scotland has criticised the proposed actions for transport in the Plan. Whilst containing a reasonable level of ambition for emissions cuts, the Plan is heavily dependent on technological change, such as the uptake of electric cars. In contrast, the Plan largely ignores opportunities provided by walking, cycling, public transport, and car sharing, and is extremely weak on road traffic demand management.
