    Anyone seen this?

Came up on my facebook feed after a friend of mine shared it (all the more surprising as they're a motorbiker and horse rider!)

The usual victim blaming but dressed up in nice rhyming words to make it all..well, nice. :(

    "and sunshine lit the day"
    "appeared amidst the gloom."

I bet it was a really dark night, but that the sun was also in his eyes?

"I took a bend I know so well - at sixty…, like you do."

I think there's an entire set of adverts based around this being stupid.

Well here's mine from a cyclist point of view -

All the drivers claim to like a helmet and high viz upon a bike
But cyclist beware and don't be fooled
That you are safe for truth be told
A lot of drivers are blind or bad
And when they hit you folk are sad
It doesn't matter what you wear
High viz with helmet and right of way please beware

Don't know where he (?) gets his figures from - 200 dying? Anything for a scan I suppose.

I get a bit of grief from the local horseriders around here for not wearing hi vis and wearing a black jacket (not in a bad way, just concerned for my safety). Pointing out that all our cows are black and our sheep aren't hi vis and either could be round the next bend doesn't really cut any ice

    "@Min - have I caused offence?"

    It's unlikely!

Problem with some facebook pages/sites is that (for reasons I have never understood), login is needed for (some?) mobile devices.

Chdot is correct. It is saying I need to log in to read it. Whatever it is does sound kind of offensive from the comments though?

Someone is that thread is admitting she's a really dangerous driver - unable to see people not in cars at all unless in hi viz, apparently... "This is so true. The amount of people on push bikes and also pedestrians that I have nearly hit on the roads is just so truly amazing because they won't wear high viz gear."

Argh. And this! "Watch for motorbikes, watch for pedestrians, watch for cyclists, watch for hazards, children, animals.......... The list goes on & on for motorists. What about the other road users, what are they watching out for?"

Pity the poor motorist for they are supposed to try not to squish lesser beings.

Wow, maybe I should be grateful I can't read it! Like EEN comments, (and non-car drivers apparently) probably best not seen..

It hasn't really improved my evening or made me feel better about humanity, I have to say.

  13. He's trying to justify it now by saying it wasn't a 'blind' bend because he could see the truck, it was only the cyclist he couldn't see because of the tree. Erm. That makes it a blind bend presumably. And now the poor victims are saying you can't say anything about cyclists without being labelled 'anti-bike'.

But things that annoy me about it even more.

First stanza it's a lovely sunny day, second stanza the cyclist appears 'amidst the gloom'

'Dissolved out of the shadows'? Dissolved? Someone doesn't know their basic chemistry and what dissolved means.

    'Peddling' - it's 'pedalling'!!!!! Gah!

Basically if you wear black you're asking to die. Don't think that's what he's saying, well...

Left to cyclist’s discretion – most choose dark clothes to look cool,
Putting onus on us drivers - as our jobs to spot the fool.
But it's far, far more than looking good and pleasing to the eye,
It's more about the choice they make - to live or risk to die

Apparently wearing something bright would have made the cyclist visible. Despite the fact he was behind a tree....

200 deaths plucked out of thin air. As pointed out above, no bearing on reality...

    I despair.

"to live or risk to die"

To live is to risk to die.

For me it just sums up the terrible driving standards in the country. Maybe its time to make the test harder with an emphasis on safety.

As folk have said (even on facebook) the person driving is an accident waiting to happen.

"Maybe its time to make the test harder with an emphasis on safety."

Retests every 5 years wouldn't really 'infringe people's civil liberties'.

Eye tests at the same time - or more frequently - or even in random roadside stops (with or without a breathalyser).
