This looks like it will be fantastic: an exhibition of the NMS' working models.

  2. Wow! My great-uncle spent his working life creating working models in the NMS on Chambers Street. When I was younger, they used to show the name of the model-maker in the case beside the exhibit, so I could always tell the ones he'd made or if he'd been part of the team who made them.

Uncle Jim died in the early 90s. I've always wanted to see if the museum kept a note of the modelmakers, so I could revisit any which were still on display.

One of the things he left behind were rolls and rolls of film negatives (he had a serious photography habit at one time), and around 10 years ago I spent a year going through them all and printing any interesting ones in the Leith Camera Club's darkroom. There were a number of shots of the engineers at work in the museum making their models, as well as 'at play' shots of them having lunch on the roof of the museum!

"There were a number of shots of the engineers at work"

    NMS might be interested.

  4. Pretty sure I gave all of the prints I made to my Dad; I'll check with him at the weekend. If not, I may have to look through lots of rolls of negatives again and buy a film scanner!

If I find any, I'll let them know and see if they'd like copies.
