One (all) of the designs features a Princes Street devoid of traffic. Looked like it would be pedestrianised from Hanover St to Waverley Bridge. M&S would spill under the street into the gardens below Scott Monument
None of the drawings have vehicles in them. Certainly no bicycles. Letraset type people or maybe Meccanorma digital. One appears to be break dancing. None have iPods.
These drawings would all have appeared on EN front pages with critical comments from The Cockburn Society.

Possibly better than the "unbuild" Princes street of the 1960s where every facade was to match the New Club.

Presumably all these plans took into account things like the Scott Monument's foundations and that underground stream/lade/drain thing. I also think they're underestimating the hassle of maintaining the grass growing up to the edge of the windows without having lawmowers accidentally crashing through the windows onto shoppers and so on.
