Rumours of ‘mechanical doping’ have surfaced with some regularity over the past few years. The UCI now undertakes regular checks of bikes at various events to ensure there are no concealed electric motors – but so far, nothing has been found. According to reports, the UCI had introduced a new method to detect motors at Zolder.

was anyone else watching this? was she the one who towards the end (maybe right at last lap?) was pushing her bike, then went into the pits, and never came back out?

Museeuw replies: “There is an obvious advantage. You felt it yourself. 150 Watts is a lot.”
I can tell you that normal people who don’t normally exercise would find it difficult to push 150 Watts in a cardio test. It’s unequivocal. You’ve won. Congratulations.”

People are dismissive of the Urban Arrow as it's 'only' 250 watts. If you pedal a bit you can keep up with people on lightweight bikes - but at least it's not pretending to be a typical bike. Is very annoying for them though!

This scene merely confirms my suspicions that even in any event some people will do anything to cheat. Even in Tour 'o the Borders when some riders used non-UCI approved bikes :)
