MORRISON STREET now closed westbound Semple St to Gardner's Cresc for gas main renewal. Expected to be closed for 6-8 weeks. #edintravel

Morrison St also down to 1 lane EICC to Lothian Rd. Delays Ponton St / Semple St / Fountainbridge / Dewar Pl. #edintravel

    Any 'bike provision'?

Hmm. I'll check it out at lunchtime, including the ability to cut across from the EICC (theoretically, as the path between Atria and EICC proper is still close) to the back-of-Port-Hamilton path.

    Other than the pavement, no.

Currently the westbound works extend only as far as the toucan crossing. You could go between the offices from Semple St to Port Hamilton and thence to the remainder of Morrison St, though the first bit's not shared.

Traffic already backed up all the way round Semple Street onto Fountainbridge and beyond. Rush hour is going to be completely solid.

Get ready for "traffic chaos" outrage.

Once past the wee service/yard thing past Port Hamilton there's nothing much stopping you using the roadway. At least the south footway is quite generous outside Widows.
If you emerge from the path between SWIP and the robot car park it's best to cross the road and use the wider Widows-side path than the narrow bit in front of Atria/Co-op; there are plastic barriers between along the middle of the road. The crossing by the EICC is still in use.

@CyclingEdin We're always ready for that sort of thing! Signed div. is Fountainbridge - Gardner's Cresc. That's all we have I'm afraid. ^J

There's a big yellow sign up on Home Street northbound saying "LEITH STREET CLOSED EXPECT DELAYS". Don't know if it's supposed to say "MORRISON STREET" or if they're just preparing everyone early on.

(Motorised) traffic chaos this morning - Ponton St/Fountainbridge/Semple St. Bikes seem to be percolating OK as traffic is stationary most of the time. Some using Loudons to Semple St cut-through. Not ideal though.

Same LEITH STREET CLOSED sign spotted at Haymarket yesterday. I thought blimey, that's advanced notice!

Really blocked on Fountainbridge this morning. I didn't fancy a long undertake so diverted to the canal.

Got a taxi at lunchtime (bad choice) & driver said that the diversion is badly signposted so drivers constantly go down Semple Street and realise too late that they can't turn right. Very congested.

Morrison Street westbound has now reopened and the demolition which closed a lane on Semple St has now completed. This means that Semple St is back to its old self as a 3-lane one-way raceway (when the "loading" cars and vans are not blocking one or two of the lanes).

Just a warning for folk cycling it, as drivers are now making high-speed dashes for the lights on both the right and the left of the road.

I found a council paper from 2013 that said a review was under way of all the one way stuff round Tollcross and Fountainbridge with a view to removing it. Never found any mention of it before or after.
