    Hi,
I have used this forum several times in the past and people have always been very helpful. I am looking for some more advice again please.
I moved to Edinburgh in January and between then and the end of April, I have been staying in a Bed & Breakfast (Emmaus House in Gilmore Place – as recommend by a user on this forum, its absolutely wonderful too!). However, from May, I will need to find a permanent place and I am thinking about flat sharing. Does anyone have any recent experience of the flat sharing market in Edinburgh? Would I be right in saying that the average rent would be between £400 - £500 a month? I have been looking at Spareroom.com, but does anyone think Gumtree (or any other sites) are better? Is it worth creating your own profile and let landlords come to you rather than you go to them?
I have heard how competitive it is to find a flat here and I am a bit worried about it to be honest. I am hoping in the period I am looking to move (between the students leaving and the tourists arriving for summer) that I might strike lucky…
Failing that, does anyone know of someone looking for a lodger from May onwards? (I am 33, non-smoker and enjoy cycling!!)
    Thanks for reading,

    Rob

Hi Rob, my girlfriend's brother is moving into a new house "soon" (I actually have no idea when). In the past he's had tenants and will probably continue this practice. I will ping him by other means and see what his situation is.

I rent out my spare room to flatmates sometimes (not at present). I charge £400 for a double room and that includes all bills. That's the cheaper end of the market. The average seems to be about £430 plus council tax and bills.

Spareroom.co.uk is pretty good. I've found flatmates there.

I found people looked for my room and I looked for them, so it is worthwhile creating your own profile. It's free unless you go for the special deals.

If you are getting desperate you may be able to get a cheapish deal on airbnb for a month.
