I really hope Charles gave it to him with both barrels even though Trump seems incapable of listening to anyone. Theresa might be a damp squib of an ex pm and unwilling to give him the facts but Charles hasn't held back in the past.

Environmental groups welcomed the goal but expressed disappointment that the plan would allow the UK to achieve it in part through international carbon credits, something Greenpeace said would “shift the burden to developing nations”.

It’s simply because, like all western governments, it tends to use radical language about the climate emergency we face, and then to act as if it has all the time in the world; and as if the maintenance of the old economy, and the continuous oiling of its wheels, must almost always take precedence. As matters stand, only 3.5% of the government agency Transport Scotland’s budget is being spent on walking and cycling, while more than ten times as much is spent on road building; and as the climate activist Greta Thunberg has so often and eloquently pointed out, statistics like these suggest that governments do not at all mean what they say.

For "unaware of" substitute "don't give a monkeys about"
I think that's actually unfair - I've had casual conversations with plenty of people who do give a monkeys but haven't ever sat down and read in any depth into this. And they have been bombarded by articles suggesting that recycling, changing to LED lightbulbs, and using ecover cleaners is where the action is. Divestment, holding oil companies responsible, radical reshaping of transport & agriculture systems, dismantling compulsory consumption systems are not the place most people start from. (Look, ten years ago I 100% cared about The Environment, but I honestly didn't know how much a single trans-continental flight multiplied my carbon footprint. Not sure being told that was evidence I didn't give a monkeys would have helped me learn. I was also stuck in a toxic job and lacking any spare mental space or time to think about wider issues in any depth let alone take action about them - I think the culture of overwork this country loves powerfully helps to keep people welded into the status quo...)

Last year, the consortium published an investigation into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. The latest project comes amid repeated warnings of an environmental emergency caused by climate change, which further increases the pressure on already scarce resources.

Quite a log jam for cars tonight which was fine by bike
Posted 5 years ago # -
Had to detour around Lothian Road as even bikes are stopped from going through tonight - did not delay me much picking new shiny things from Evans.
Scottish Widows offices etc are gridlocked on Semple Street etc.
The protest itself looked a little sad with a bunch collected around barriers at the Northen end opp. Usher Hall but a lot of empty space behind.
I hope more are due to join them this evening as there seemed to be more cops than protestors about 6.

Came through west port, polis directing traffic but if drivers observed the lights the polis would have been superfluous

But Peter Cruikshank, 22, from Bruntsfield said: “It’s a total nightmare. There’s so much hypocrisy as they’re handing out leaflets and keeping traffic waiting which just makes it even worse.
“
All that matters is ‘business as usual’.
Hard to believe/convince anyone that ‘more of the same’ and ‘hope it will be alright’ aren’t viable options.
Evidence is not enough.

And yet:
Four tourist legs good, two environmental legs bad

Just reclined across town and traffic is fairly static. Bikes of course blocked by parked cars and people trying to u-turn.
Off/on topic...

Heathrow Airport will construct a third runway by 2026 and complete its expansion by 2050, according to its "masterplan" published on Tuesday.
The plan includes diverting rivers, moving roads and rerouting the M25 through a tunnel under the new runway.
