Failure to deliver the bold rise in expenditure, equivalent to about 2% of economic output each year and around 5% of total state spending, would mean passing on an unsustainable economy with a “planet-sized debt” caused by a climate breakdown, the groups said.

We can't even get the Americans to change their light bulbs -
possibly one of the easiest interventions to reduce CO2 from electricity production.

For heavens sake. What chance do we have?

banning incandescent bulbs would be bad for consumers because of the higher cost of more efficient bulbs

banning incandescent bulbs would be bad for suppliers because of the longer lifetime of more efficient bulbs

But Bristol will face stiff competition in the race to tackle the climate crisis from Glasgow and Edinburgh, which launched bids to become the UK’s first carbon-neutral city this year. Edinburgh has already shrunk its carbon footprint by a third since 2005 and is on track to reduce its carbon emissions by more than 40% by 2020 before becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

Those crazy Marchmont kids were up early this morning on their strike day. Instead of going to school they went to the junction of Middle Meadow Walk (NSEW), drew a big chalk world roundabout AND STOOD ON IT. iN a good natured if cockamamie attempt to persuade pedestrians and cyclists to save the planet.

Not sure “irony” is optimum word.

Don’t know how to factor in today’s other ‘big event’.
