Thunberg: ‘My message to the Americans is the same as to everyone – to unite behind the science and to act on the science’

    ...

While in the US, Thunberg has met fellow protesters, people who have lost their homes to wildfires and advocates for native Americans. She has learned a lot, she said, but the “basic problem is the same everywhere”.

“Nothing is being done to stop the climate and ecological emergency from happening and to secure the future wellbeing for future generations,” she said.

Scotland's fastest growing / least taxed public transport hub has finally stopped growing. If B****t happened it could go into reverse - maybe the only bright spot from that bit of anarchy. Airlines are possibly already thinking that it's better to keep planes at airports inside future EU.
Belfast could be good as a unique EUK country able to cover all options.

At least someone is making money out of the crisis.

(Though slightly hard to get people to sign up with no confirmed speakers?)

Climate campaigners are addressing councillors about setting up a citizens assembly. Climate denier Cllr Rose asks them “is there any room in your mind for doubt that catastrophe is imminent and the science can be disputed?”

The campaigners reply, saying: “Should we believe a few dissenting voices? Are we really going to take the risk that 97 per cent of scientists might be wrong? I don’t think that’s a risk we should take for the future of our planet.”

The first ever election leaders’ debate focusing on the climate crisis will be broadcast by Channel 4 next week, with the prime minister the only major party leader set to be absent.

Jeremy Clarkson has made what could be the biggest reversal of his 30-year career. The anti-environmental columnist has, for the first time, accepted the existence of global heating after seeing the impact for himself.

    Well yes but -

Stop! Don’t send that email. Don’t offer thanks or send a jokey message. If you do, you will add to your carbon footprint. Be rude, say nothing – and save the planet.

    https://www.theguardian.com/technology/shortcuts/2019/nov/26/pointless-emails-theyre-not-just-irritating-they-have-a-massive-carbon-footprint

Once again highlighting the notion that it’s a lot to do with small individual personal choices - rather than some really major changes to a whole lot of things.

    So there's a Climate Emergency.

Apparently though BBC sees it as a priority to highlight how overpriced bottled water is at motorway services?

    Priorities, people!

Also why does "Why are service station snacks so expensive?" need an article when two words will do: Captive and Market?

Do you think the journalist lies awake at night trying to work out why restaurants charge so much for the bottle of wine he put on expenses?

Many environmentalists see a contradiction between the IMF’s pursuit of growth and its new mission to tackle climate change. Georgieva disagrees: “These things are not necessarily against each other. You can have growth and it can be clean, green, sustainable and equitable.” She says her message to the COP 25 is simple: “We all recognise the risks. Now is the time to concentrate on action.”
