If fossil fuel companies are to collapse in value...

This reminds me. I need to (try and) divest my pension.

Details of COP26 in Glasgow being announced in London today.

BBC reported that UN are not happy with either Edinburgh or London's climate change (in)action.

Meanwhile media reports suggesting 'ScotGov isn't co-operating' are being spread to give climate clueless BJ some ammo.

Richard Dixon from FoE tweets this...

"Claire O’Neill whinging about @scotgov booking parts of the #COP26 site. Utter tosh, @scotgov booked the Glasgow Science Centre, across the river, several months after the UK Govt had booked the whole SEC site including the Hydro and hotels."

“Unless we take urgent action, we will get 3C hotter,” the prime minister told a gathering of climate experts, business leaders and civil society groups at the Science Museum in London on Tuesday morning. “As a country, as a society, as a planet and as a species, we must now act.”

In fairness, Canada has company here. For every territory making a sincere effort to kick fossil fuels (California, Scotland) there are other capitals just as paralyzed as Ottawa. Australia’s fires creep ever closer to the seat of government in Canberra, yet the prime minister, Scott Morrison, can’t seem to imagine any future for his nation other than mining more coal. Australia and Canada are both rich nations, their people highly educated, but they seem unable to control the zombie momentum of fossil fuels.

    'Carbon Neutral' Coalmine ??!!

As the search goes on to find someone prepared to take on the UK’s most important climate change job, where next for the government’s pledge to make Britain carbon neutral by 2050?

This week ministers announced they were bringing forward their target to phase out coal by a year, yet Cumbria County Council has just approved plans to build the country’s first deep coal mine for 30 years.

And they claim the mine will be carbon neutral. Alex Thomson has been to find out what that means.

My guess, without watching the video, is that they will offset any emissions generated while extracting the coal.

But then what customer does with the coal after that is, er, up to them. I mean, they might not burn it... Not our responsibility any more... \o/

"Ornamental coal" could be the next big thing, who knows?

    </tongue firmly in cheek>

“ My guess, without watching the video, is that they will offset any emissions generated while extracting the coal.”

Yep (was on telly last night.)

Editorialised as ‘local council thinks a few jobs now are more important than the future lives of children and grandchildren’.

Which of course is the problem/resolution faced (but not faced up to) by most Govs.

Never been a better time to fill up your car (if you have one).

    From The Sun
PUMP IT UP Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s cut fuel prices for the second time in one week by up to 4p per litre

Mrs LB says this is due to Coronavirus. Basically Chinese and Asian economy has slowed so not burning enough fuel = glut on market = plenty for everyone. Diesel users get best deal.

He added: “The reality of the climate crisis is that more extreme weather will happen more often and with devastating consequences.

New daily high set at Mauna Loa. Earth hasn't seen this level for a long, long time.

The cost of building a so-called North Sea Enclosure Dyke, estimated at between €250bn and £500bn, amounts to barely 0.1% of the combined GDP of all the countries that would be protected by it, they calculate.

I shall continue to campaign to protect nature and address disastrous climate change, as well as fighting hard on all the other crucial issues which matter to my constituents in Chipping Barnet ...

They just can't think beyond pouring concrete, can they?

Itself a massive source of emissions...

Scottish National Investment Bank proposal passed by 113 votes to zero.
Downside is climate commitment has been diluted with agreement of SNP and Tories.
Yes we do need more cross party working but in this case maybe not helpful.
Labour suggested this many years ago.

RBS have said they are ready to move HQ when IndyRef2 takes place.
UK will want to get as much banking into London to make up for losses to Dublin, Paris etc
