  2. "The council should take heed. Its policy of closing roads in the city centre will exacerbate existing pressure on traffic flow to the North of the City"

Which City Centre roads have been closed? Princes Street has been for a long time, but George St has been opened up again. I genuinely can't think of any roads that have recently been closed...

    Anyone got one?

EDIT: Also, how in your chosen deity's name does closing, say, Princes Street, affect Lower Granton Road???

Through the impenetrable machinations of CHAOS. Mortal humans may not perceive its workings, but must have faith that it resides in the roots of all causation.

Yep, haven't you heard of the butterfly effect? Physically preventing drivers from parking illegally in Roseburn causes TRAFFIC CHAOS at Fort Kinnaird.

  5. Putting 'traffic chaos' into a Google news search brings up a ridiculous amount of daily stories from around the UK.

Curious. Cars seemed to have "drivers".

Imagine Lower Granton Road being closed for an hour, they'd have to go ALL the way to Boswall Road for an alternative, and that's MINUTES drive away.

    Indeed, kappers.

It would appear TRAFFIC CHAOS is caused by roadworks, lane/road closures, and crashes. Occasionally by cars running out of fuel.

Never caused by drivers behaving like lemmings. Oh no.

  8. "closing any road exacerbates pressure on the rest of the network, especially in Edinburgh.... the council cant, don't or wont do anything about it.... sadly."

    What? I mean, just... what?

Willowbrae Avenue is closed eastbound at the moment for major works. I'd be stunned if that had a knock-on in Leith, or Morningside, or Silverknowes....

Regarding roads closed. I think I've posted a map before but Edinburgh has a reducing number of east west routes. In the city centre there's only 3 long east / west routes - Queen Street, Cowgate, Meadows / Hope Park Terrace / Bernard Street.

Routes that have been closed / restricted :-

    Johnston Terrace / Royal Mile
Lauriston Place / Chambers street / Royal Mile (banned turn)
    Princes Street
    George Street (banned turns)
    Raeburn Place / Glenogle Road

(Yes I know I'm clutching at straws)

At some point soon something has to be done on Lower Granton road. The road just isn't wide enough for 2 lanes of traffic + residents car parking + pavements + SAAB garage pavement parking.

Plenty of off road space for shared use path from Granton Square using space allocated to the tram. Remove or relocate parking spaces.

I guess the new must have shut by the evening rush hour as there was no mention of the 4 car crash on the A90 that same evening. At 6PM the traffic Chaos stretched almost the entire way from almost the Burnshot flyover to almost the Motorway joining the A90.

Strangely the bridge seemed to be flowing smoothly and the choas was shorter than usual at that time of night. Despite the loss of a lane.
