Woah woah woah, let's not rush into this. The Jolly Botanist? I think I'd rather weave my way home from somewhere else.

Kay's bar is the best pub in Edinburgh. Certainly in the winter by the fire in the wee snug chair thing. I could have stayed there for ever one night in 1984. Again on a summer Sunday afternoon with all the doors open in maybe 1994 with my better half.

Maybe the jolly botanist is the best gin bar in Edinburgh

Is there not a bar in Palma that has its own tree and opens about midnight. It is as ever, all relative.

The barman Jeff is from Nantua and can be efficiently teased about never going home. His boss Fraser once gave me moustache wax tips. Another time I stroked a dog's ears so hard I hurt it and I was ashamed.

It is a good bar. But then there's The Pond.

The Pond and Kays are both excellent establishments, at fairly opposite ends of the great pub spectrum.

I love the idea of an electropubnetic spectrum.

Diggers if you are out for the beer or whisky.
Auld Hoose if you are out for the beer and food.

Looked at the article - barman holding up a Heineken? About says it all.

There is a melancholy I love about diggers, past glories or some such. There is a great triptych painting of the pub in the canteen at Waverley court with the barman in maroon nylon coats. I admire it often.

Holyrood 9a does an excellent range of beers and burgers, I had falafel burger and a pint of jarl only last night.

Gravediggers next to glasnevin cemetery in Dublin is the best pub in the world. The gravediggers used to put their spade in through a hatch and get a pint of Guinness placed on it. There is a middle room just for bikes and you can play chuck the Hoover belt at the hooks (quoits) which causes some random rubber hilarity.
