A very strange tale in today's News about the Council, one of its 'arms length' companies and NCP which sheds a bit of light on the chance of less parking (and therefore less traffic) in the city centre.

"Lawyers for EDI told the court that their clients were told by council chiefs that the Castle Terrace project could only proceed if alternative car parking space was provided.'

I assume the use of 'Street' in

"As part of this strategy, NCP bosses identified Castle Street car park as an opportunity for development, but its lease with the council did not include the right to build on it."

is a typing slip or moment of inattention, not a cause for alarm in the hint of other, secret plans?

    "NCP bosses identified Castle Street"

Yeah I saw that and thought they were revising the plan to put cars under George Street.

    (I believe it's solid rock.)

Edinburgh is still stuck in the 'prosperity = shops = people who drive to them'

This is an old model - people drive 'out of town' (Gyle etc.), Tourists tend not arrive by car, some people walk, cycle bus...

Even if it was true, plenty of reasons for changing it!
