@slowcoach yes that's right. As I approached the junction the lights turned to green. There was a car stopped as I was approaching that moved off in front of me as light changed.

He claimed it was green for him as well "because the lights hadn't detected me"

Don't waste your energy, get in touch with a solicitor.

  4. What Dave said. Cycle Law are excellent - at the very least they will give you good, practical, concise advice on how to approach things (and also excellent advice on what you need to discuss with the police on Friday).

You don't personally need to ascribe fault - you simply give the facts, and the fault will become clear (for instance claiming his light was green because yours didn't detect the bike, which is garbage because if your lights were already green his would have been red...)

  5. Also, what SRD said about not beating yourself up. Situations like that and rational thought is remarkably difficult. The one time I was hit I wasn't injured, stayed on my feet, but the shock of it meant I was completely flummoxed. Similarly forgot to get details of a cyclist who was passing who was asking if I was okay, nor the details of the driver (remarkably, no real damage was done - I was lucky).

Another reason for contacting a solicitor is that your injuries may require physio. It seemed I had got off relatively scot free but my shoulder just didn't get better. I ended up being referred for physio more than a month after being knocked down and requiring about 15 sessions. Cycle Law made sure the driver's insurer paid for these.

Thanks everyone. I actually phoned Cycle Law earlier before I saw these messages. I was really stressed because I didn't know what I should or shouldn't do. Chris at Cycle Service recommended Cycle Law. Spoke to them, they clarified everything for me. Nothing to do now until I meet with the police on Friday, they will handle everything and if I want to pay to have bike fixed now either myself or through home insurance I can do and they will seek to recover. Really excellent first impression of them.

@dave wasting energy is the right way to put it- this whole thing has exhausted me to be honest. As you say, I could have saved energy going to Cycle Law earlier Today and yesterday I've managed a morning of productive work then been totally wiped out by around lunchtime
