I know it's not related to cycling but can't help being pleased for them.
When my daughter was at school a Hibs supporting family made sure regular football was organised for the Royal Mile Primary School. They gave up loads of time and think their inclusive nature got children interested in a physical activity. For me it mean many saturday out on tandem ferrying daughter to places like Wardie. I know many would say cycling is more important than football but any activity is better than none! Ideally schools should do both.

Anyway - they are a fixture along with rivals Hearts. Both have kept stadiums in the city where fans can go on foot if they wish.

If anyone has a good news story connecting Hibs success and cycling then by all means add!

    114 years of trying

Well that is perseverance. Robert the Bruce would be proud.

Unfortunately stories of pitch invasion, and Rangers players and coach being attacked seem to be stealing the headlines...

Pitch invasion seemed entirely good spirited - serious over-reaction by media?

Saw a tweet saying the police was all at the Rangers end, and that the stewards at the Hibs end 'parted like the red sea'.

Rangers saying players and staff assaulted, SFA "appalled", and "Hibs chairman Rod Petrie told BBC Scotland what happened was "deeply disappointing".

Images of goals destroyed and pitch ripped up don't convey good spirit.

Football fans don't do pitch invasions in the same way rugby fans do...

A shame that a few spoiled the ffun of the many? Most did seem to just be overjoyed.

Attacks on Rangers players/officials seriously out of order.

I wonder if Sevco will also be complaining to the SFA about the quite clearly heard sectarian singing from the Mount Florida end?

Aside from that, well done to the Hibs, from a Jambo.

The streets of Leith have been echoing all night to the sound of Hibs fans celebrating: singing, happy, smiling. Like a carnival.

Don't let the bad losers of the Sevco fan media misinform you. It was Hibernian's day, and the supporters have celebrated in a good natured way.

Open top bus victory parade tomorrow afternoon through Edinburgh...

I hadn't heard about Hibs fans taking turf back for their allotments when I posted...

Reflecting though. Last time they won Leith had a workng tram system and a railway station. Bike use was also higher.
The century+ of car dependence has been a bad one for them. Moves towards more bike use surely have helped in this historic win ;-)

Hibs oldest fan: ‘I was the happiest man in Hampden’

Fans pay for football, they should be allowed on the pitch. And in a media culture that celebrates Scotland fans breaking goalposts at Wembley back In the day, can anyone be surprised when some overjoyed jobs fans do the same at Hampden?

    Quite.

Perhaps a question of a different sort of 'auld enemy'

I suppose media closer to Wembley might have reported things differently at the time...

Wonderful stuff. Monkey off back etc

114 years of emotion got the better of some. I wasn't on the pitch, but won't criticise 99% of those who were only there to celebrate.

Clearly any verbal or physical stuff is not on, and if there were a few idiots they should be dealt with.

Some of the press coverage has it as WW3/Armageddon - it was very far from that.

Post match in Leith was a blur of beer and japes.

Parade/pubs/Leith links yesterday brilliant (apologies to any residents, there might be a few cans and bottles lying around......)

Saw one bike related incident on Leith Walk yesterday when a young lad almost took out a couple of (slightly sozzled) fans on a crossing. Great emergency stop!

Apologies to any Twitter followers for some of my drunken output over the last day or so!!!

And now we know that Lothian Buses have a gold bus for occasions such as this.

@dougal, brand new, never used before?

still a couple of gold pillar boxes for chris hoy.

Also spotted a victorian pillar box on road above the start of the innocent tunnel, at entry to park

  20. I prefer to think of it as our second win in 115 years

My plans to dress in my green and white lycra and follow the gold bus on my green bike was thwarted by my wife early doors.

probably a good call as it was pretty busy behind that bus.

The Sammy Martinez story above is wonderful. In the late 60's, early 70's I travelled on the same supporters bus as Sammy to away games. He'd have been 50 odd then, and I was only 4!

Definitely not the best day to have booked a meal at the Compass on Queen Charlotte St for a group including three small children at 17:00. The bus was just arriving as we approached so we had to duck round the block to the north but there was still an unsteady stream of shouty people with pub-breath to negotiate.

"...apologies to any residents, there might be a few cans and bottles lying around..."

I believe there was a big litterpick on Monday, hopefully at the expense of the club, hopefully taking extra care around the playpark and the bit of grass used by the school to get every bit of glass. There's a fresh slew of glass by the bench opposite the east tump which I'll flag up today.

Further revellers out on Leith Walk last night... drumming loudly on shop shutters and hollering into the night. My patience is wearing thin.

  23. About 14 or 15 years ago I returned for a long weekend in Lyon, where I had been a student about 5 years before that.

It happened to be the night of the last day of the football season there, and Lyon were on the verge of winning their first ever French championship. Giant screens set up in a few locations, Lyon won 2-0, cue people taking up every last bit of space, car horns, flags from windows. A wonderful wonderful celebratory atmosphere. Except we went to the cinema during the showing of the match, and got back to the hotel early, because my other half at the time was fearful of football fans.

    *sad face*
