    There's a job vacancy available as Cycle Hub Manager at Heriot-Watt's Edinburgh Campus with Oriam, the company that is behind Scotland's new sport performance centre.

    The Bike Bothy is very well equipped and would benefit from a competent new manager now that we have lost Abi. Applications are due in by midnight on Monday 13th June.

    I'm actually qualified to do that job. Might apply for a laugh. Is the salary for the part time hours or pro-rata'd (sp?) do you think?

    @IWRATS pro-rata'd I fear.

    I've written and asked them the hours. I'll go to interview and when they offer it to me demand the whole whack for two days a week, let them haggle me down to two and a half.

    HW clearly up there with the greats of HR administration. Reply received today, which is the closing date;

    Dear IWRATS,

    Thank you for your email. I can confirm that this post will be 17.5 hours per week. I believe the recruiting manager had hoped for the post holder to start work at the beginning of August.

    Kind Regards,

    Senior Administrative Assistant

    5 days is pretty swift as far as HR depts go. i can remember being invited back for the second stage interview by Sky. The interview was two days hence and I would be at work for 14 hours that day so unavailable. "Could we schedule for next week perhaps, when I'll be better placed to get the time off when we aren't short staffed due to armed roberies on our district?" I asked. "Oh, we're really very keen to get these positions filled as soon as humanly possible." came the reply. I had applied for the job a full 7 months before this conversation.

    I didn't go to the interview.

    @IWRATS does that mean you won't be applying or just in a rush?

    No comedy interview for me, nor have I been able to forward the job to people who might actually want it.

    I was minded to apply, but for the insistence that the prospective candidate already have the necessary bike maintenance qualifications rather than just 20 years' DIY experience.

    That's a shame on both counts. Not sure which of Oriam or Heriot-Watt would be most to blame for the inflexible job requirements. Hopefully somebody applied though as it is a shame to have the well equipped Bike Bothy locked up.

    Did that come from HR? It's quite usual to be able to substitute x theoretical qualification for y years practical experience when applying for anything, even if not invited to do so

    @jdanielp Does it mean they were not very happy with the previous manager?
    The Bike Bothy is one of the best (if not the best) thing about HW in my experience. I really liked Abi it's a shame she left.

    No, the previous post-holder was Kerr, a rough diamond if there ever was one, who has moved on to better things.

    I think we should all apply this time.

    Individually or collectively?

    I'm actually quite tempted, again, though anyone working as a bike mechanic and has a lot of money, probably started with a lot more money.

    Can you imagine the meeting to get the CV of CCE written? It. Would. Be. CHAOS.

    So collectively then.

    Apparently Heriot-Watt/Oriam's new Cycle Hub Manager will be ex-professional commonwealth games cyclist Evan Oliphant.
