A colleague and her husband were recently at hampden park for a Coldplay gig. Though works for Bruce Springsteen too.

Their route from Edinburgh to Glasgow was influenced by the fact that they intended to avoid the snarl of traffic leaving the stadium ( works also for a football match but I estimate a pop concert audience is less pished than a football crowd, see also stoned which these days is also the case though was different in early 1980s where the circles were further apart on the Venn diagram).

What did they do, the wide awake reader wonders? They drove to cambuslang on south side of Glasgow, avoiding err, Glasgow at all. They then cycled to hampden and used bicycle parking near the chip vans. After the gig, which IMHO was the least enjoyable aspect of the evening, they cycled back to their car and then drove home hours before anyone else. These are intelligent people.

I know an Edinburgh club that take their Hampden bus home via East Kilbride. Takes an hour off the journey.

@fountainbridge Ah yes that works if you know all the roundabouts, last time we left hampden after the st Johnstone debacle we went out into the country alas not on the EK Side so we did have to return to kngston bridge But we did see a lot of Cathcart. Teddy Taylor a facist Tory used to represent that very constituency.

Actually the st Johnstone debacle was at parkhead, so the Cathcart debacle was previous debacle

I once watched international rugby whilst outwith the physical confines of my cranium. Became obsessed with the numbers on their shirts, adding them up, speculating on meaning and so forth. Bill McLaren's commentary didn't help neither.

I was slowed somewhat at the last Madness gig I went to because the key broke off in my bike lock.

I'll probably use a bike to see them at the Hydro in December but the memsahib is going to the August one in Edinburgh so that's not going to work.

I'm driving to Leeds this afternoon to not attend a Barry Manilow gig. Then another one in Glasgow on Tuesday and a third in Birmingham next Saturday.

I have packed some movies*, a harmonica, ukulele, iPad and Brompton to keep me entertained while avoiding the Fanilows.

Monday is ISIHAC in Glasgow which I will be attending.
