Two Britons in the top 3...

Last year I backed cav and greipel hung on his wheel and won most contests. This year I switched to greipel and Cav is winning. I feel I have contributed to the manxman's success in my own small way.

Woo! finally some exciting racing - and what a finish. Madness.

"...finally some exciting racing..."
Photo finishes not enough????
Do prefer the mountain stages though.

Mountain top finishes are the best

"Mountain top finishes are the best"
Depends...

Thought he would make his move today.

Froome is letting his cycling doing the talking this tour isn't he? He still never knowingly says anything interesting off the bike, but he's becoming quite entertaining on it.
Posted 8 years ago # -
Froome always answers the question he is asked Yes, definitely
Posted 8 years ago # -
So true! And then sounds like a middle manager from accounts giving the quarterly team update
Posted 8 years ago # -
I think that's harsh on Froome. Peter Sagan he is not, but he seems more cheerful and chatty this Tour.
And wasn't yesterday's stage exciting?Posted 8 years ago # -
I'm with fimm. I think he's actually been quite interesting both on and off the bike this year.

this makes more sense in the velogames thread, but chastised by WC, I am putting it here:
Teklahaimanot's in the breakaway!

crazy

madness - Froome was RUNNING up Mount Ventoux
Richie Porte had finally put some space between him and CF and then he ran into the back end of a Moto and then had Mollema land on top of him.

"
Froome started running to the finish line, got a spare bike and a second spare bike to complete the course

Tour de Farce any way you look at it, but for me the right decision would have been to let the result on the road stand, and leave Froome with the righteous indignation to fuel his way back to win the tour anyway.
Then it would have been a legendary tour for the right reasons, not a farce of favouritism by the commissaires to protect yellow.

Like Middle Meadow Walk in the Festival.

Not really a result/spoiler, but itvcycling says Steve Cummings definitely going to Rio. Apparently Peter Kennaugh (sp?) has withdrawn.

And Cav's dropped out. (Of the tour)

"Then it would have been a legendary tour for the right reasons, not a farce of favouritism by the commissaires to protect yellow."
And given free reign to fans to take out the contenders they don't like.
Right decision. 100%. Not favouritism, but fairness (Adam Yates wasn't in yellow when he was given similar leeway for the collapsing 1km banner).

Why did Steve Cavendish drop out? To prepare for the Olympics?
Posted 8 years ago # -
Yes Cav is off to Rio unlike the golfers
Posted 8 years ago # -
Sorry, meant Mark Cavendish obvs.

@wc
given free reign to fans to take out the contenders they don't like
Aye, but that's not how this particular incident played out
There was bottleneck congestion, too many fans and too many motorbikes
If this incident had been further down the field they'd have shrugged it off
Similar rider collisions with cars / motorbikes weren't treated this way
Yates crash was covered under the usual sprint finish rules
and Froome would have been back in yellow after the time trial next day anyway

"Aye, but that's not how this particular incident played out"
No. It's not how this one played out. But that doesn't stop my point being correct, when fans see the effect.
"If this incident had been further down the field they'd have shrugged it off"
We'll have to agree to disagree on that.
"Yates crash was covered under the usual sprint finish rules"
Nope. If it had been he would have got the same time as the main field behind him. They tweaked the rules to give him the advantage.
"and Froome would have been back in yellow after the time trial next day anyway"
Which couldn't in any way have been guaranteed. But by that rationale, if it was to happen on Morzine in the penultimate stage, and would lose him the yellow then should they give him the benefit, but if it's an earlier stage with a TT later they shouldn't? Wherein lies the difference?
