I seem to recall something like this appearing in Against A Dark Background, but obviously on a much larger scale because that's how Iain Banks operated.

Some kind of bus/train/service-station that you could drive up into while it was moving along the road and park inside it for a kip while the vehicle continued to travel through the night.

EDIT: And obviously by this I mean, "I wonder if you'll be able to cycle straight up a ramp into the back?".

Somebody (Tulyar?) posted recently about mass transit and cycling infrastructure in Bogota, Columbia. It looked brilliant and so efficient. For goodness sake, if Bogota can do it, why can't Edinburgh (and other UK cities and towns)?

  4. For a period of time Bogota had an incredibly forward thinking mayor (can't for the life of me remember his name at the moment). He instituted all sorts of stuff including, I think, a weekend day a month (not just an annual thing) with traffic banned from the city centre. Just brilliant.

Yeeek. Initially the browser window only showed the top of the vehicle, then I scrolled down.

Probably more of a gimmick but it's worth testing. Didn't think they'd have a working prototype so soon.
