Just been diverted off cyclepath coming from Bruntsfield going east. Barrier over path. Cycled round to top of Warrander Park Road. No idea how long this will last for. Maybe on twitter?

@_MMaritima @edintravel it looks like path is closed for peds & cyclists. Barriers moved by frustrated commutershttp://pic.twitter.com/Pi1dco9atv

interesting. others will know more. i vaguely recall some discussion yesterday about cyclists ignoring the road closed signs, and others pointing out n eed for diversion signs!

That road is in real need of resurfacing. I occasionally head up that way on the way home from work if I need to go to the Bike Co-op and I'm surprised every time by how bumpy it is which makes the climb harder.

There really is no need to shut Leamington Walk there.
Total overkill.

Earlier:
Nice to see the original cobbles, though they've been scoured a bit by the tarmac scouring machine.

Was up earlier too. Desire lines going round and through obstacles. Not just cyclists.
The detour was just too long and narrow for the numbers using path. Basically all the way by EBC to Warrender Park Road or down the hill in Arellcat's shot.

Notable how staggeringly good a condition the sets appear to be in given how bad the Tarmac was on top

Watch out if you try to use the out-of-use road at moment. Foot deep holes and pretty dark last night with the rain. Saw someone fall off their bike outside Ed Bike, no harm done.

The barriers at the top of Leamington Walk had been pushed open this morning. But then a hi-viz-ified guy came and closed them again ~9am. For all the good it will do...

The setts look in much better nick than the tarmac road surface was.
Posted 8 years ago # -
The Tarmac is helping to preserve the setts for future generations*.
LOL
*Ones that give a damn about heritage and don't allow ridiculously oversized, overweight motorised contraptions to travel over them.

tried the diversion this morning while cyling with minisrd. quite terrifying as it is full of massive lorries reversing at every junction. banksman at whitehouse loan made an effort to get a funeral procession through but seemed blithely unconcerned at pedestrians and cyclists. ones reversing further down had no obvious out of vehicle support.
Posted 8 years ago # -
Also this am, a tipper lorry reversing out of James Gillespies High School car park, across Warrender Park Road and continuing to reverse down Marchmont Street.
No banksman at all.
Posted 8 years ago # -
yes - i think the above is what I encountered as well - but in my case as vehicle reversing from Marchmont st into gillespies as we turned into marchmont st. sorry - i was too lazy to check the street names/figure out what was going on.

These lorries for the re-surfacing or something else?
Posted 8 years ago # -
Whitehouse Loan is a strong contender for worst surface in central Edinburgh award. Really glad to hear it's being resurfaced.
Posted 8 years ago # -
@rosie - true enough, but I worry abotu vehicles speeding now. at least the crappy surface kept them moving slowly
Posted 8 years ago # -
@chdot - i don't know. Eddie_h is probably right that they were connected to the school, rather than the resurfacing. i was more focussed on getting us through them and back onto LW.
Posted 8 years ago # -
@SRD did you see a banksman?
There wasn't one for the tipper lorry I saw
Posted 8 years ago # -
nope
Posted 8 years ago # -
I'm confused but are some of these lorries connected to

Only just got round to trying the nice new surface.
Goes as far south as Thirlstane Road, SGN is playing with the rest.
How much further north will they go??
Posted 8 years ago # -
So... Whitehouse Loan is now completely resurfaced and silky smooth for its entire length.
I think the final bit was reopened at the start of the week.
It was certainly all good when I cycled along it on Tuesday evening.Posted 8 years ago # -
