It from the Chipwrapper.
Also 'cyclists' are upsetting people, but he said this wearing a polystyrene bicycle hat.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

ah yes - sorry I skimmed that bit... he's extraordinarily inconsistent - my brain hurts
"A bunch of shops which expects to get its trade from passing vehicles usually looks a bit more like this than Roseburn Terrace. "
Well aye, except there's a widened shared use footway on Seafield Road directly opposite. Oh and B&M stores even have bike parking... :-)
IWRATS "It from the Chipwrapper."
I rather like the subversive comment at the end though.
There is currently only around 210 metres of protected cycleway across the whole of Edinburgh. The longest continuous stretch is 140 metres on St Leonard’s Street. In contrast, miles of protected cycleways stretch across cities such as London, Bristol, Copenhagen and Amsterdam.
@Min
It is an astonishing figure.
I pointed out to my councillors that Till's Bookshop hadn't closed down despite the installation of a segregated cycleway outside it.
IF Till's shuts it's because bookshops shut (even secondhand ones).
That crossing will probably bring them business.
"The longest continuous stretch is 140 metres on St Leonard’s Street."
I've been past that and never even noticed it.
I suppose you don't look for what you never expect to find.
Where's the other 70m?
@gibbo - I imagine that refers to the bit on Buccleuch Street
This is the bit on St Leonard's: https://goo.gl/maps/nhjWCMoK7km
And yes, you can follow it in the Meadows direction to find the bit on Buccleuch Street.
he's extraordinarily inconsistent
The inconsistencies seem to be a hallmark of this sort of misinformation and fearmongering campaign. You don't need to be right if you can get people scared and worried.
I don't need to reiterate any of the examples I got from the brief discussion a Roseburn trader insisted on having with me on Monday, you can guess them all and most of them contradicted themselves in the following or even same sentence (i.e. it was both simultaneously too wide and too narrow, nobody would use it but it didn't offer high enough capacity...)
Cafe Colpamio - can recommend for a cappuccino that is like the ones you get in Italy, not Starbucks.
Lovely wee cakes as well.
Just said to my husband... "Well if there's one good thing come out of all of this it's that Colpamia have impressed a new group of customers". If only other traders had impressed similarly!
LivD: yes, I went back there yesterday afternoon with my wife en route to Cramond. The espresso was stellar: best I've had in Edinburgh.
At the previous hate-fest I overheard someone say that the florists were moving round onto the main road and that Colpamio was considering extending next door. If so then I hope they put some cycle racks in as it will definitely go onto the "Cafes" thread here with high recommendation.
Some campaigning and pressure does pay off.
Alistair Grant of the EEN asked on Monday where to buy a second hand bike. Today he's tweeted a picture of his new bike. Small victories.
If anyone spots him then give him a wave - he seems a nice guy.
I always say, you get someone to make that first journey by bike AND if they have a good experience they will be hooked.
The guy who runs Till's seems very pleased with the cycle way even though it's titchy.
He likes the larger pavements and the increase in footfall.
I suspect he'd even be happy to go on the record as a supporting voice if he were asked.
Where's Tills?
End of the Meadows, at the very beginning of the innocent link path
Tills looks lovely. I'll go in next time I'm passing.
Is it still the wee American guy that sold me a wheen of paperbacks 1987-1990?
I think the route does bring people from the meadows to the shop for example Morningsider and I go that way after peters yard instead of Forrest road?
