Criterium Cycles has partnered with Buccleuch Estates to open a brand new cycle hire facility at Dalkeith Country Park. The Park re-opened in July following a multi million pound investment to create one of the very best outdoor leisure destinations in Scotland. You can find out more about Dalkeith Country Park and its centrepiece attractions of Fort Douglas and the Restoration Yard by clicking on the links. There are lovely routes to enjoy in the park and we are working with our friends at Dalkeith Country Park to expand them all the time.

I cycled through the park yesterday from the north east gatehouse at Home Farm (Smeaton) near Whitecraig to the main gate in Dalkeith. No obstructions to cyclists but there's a closed gate and bypass path which would stop cars. Much nicer than the main road.

It *is* nice, especially early in the morning and with the bluebells out and the occasional hare. Plus the park offers other pleasant through routes, especially with wider tyres.

On charging, they seem to be making no effort to seek entry fees (at least at the town and smeaton gates). Indeed they have a sign at the town end saying free parking. Perhaps they just earn money via the facilities. On the other hand, I think the town gate may now close at 7pm. I've not yet been stopped by that but have seen what looked liked preparations to close. It's possible to buy a card for night access.
