Probably not indeed.
Cooncil over-reaction to lots of successfully dodged parking tickets on that road with the "I didn't see the sign" defence?

Similar to Craigleith Hill Avenue which is a sort of honorary member of the NEPN. I've often thought it's a bit silly how many signs there are for such a quiet area, but as the council says it seems necessary without designating "official" parking over driveways (you can imagine the EEN fury that would unleash.)
I'm not really clear on the history of having restricted parking here - presumably parts of it are a good place to park for getting into town or a nearby employer. The bays/lines distinction seems clear in Edinburgh but a bit arbitrary - is there a legal restriction that prevents them single-yellow-lining the whole road with the permit/pay and display restriction? That way they'd only have to sign it at intervals, not at every bay, probably just using lampposts.

I think the restrictions in the area are becuase of proximity to WGH and Police HQ and so on - not enough parking on either site for staff so they would want to park on residential streets nearby.

The issue with that road is that the parking bays are not continuous but broken up regularly by access to driveways. It's a requirement that each individual section of parking has a sign beside it hence 58 distinct parking areas (no, I haven't counted them) means 58 signs as they need one each.

Ah - makes sense.
I wonder if the same people on Orchard Road would complain if the restrictions were removed?
