@edintravel now saying it's up to 45 minutes to do 1.5 miles.

“it's up to 45 minutes to do 1.5 miles“
Don’t suppose there are any bus lanes in the area!

Nope :(

Total chaos tonight at bottom of st Marys street traffic lights out. Further mayhem up the street. Went onto towpath as soon as possible.

Corstorphine Road nose to tail pretty much all the way from Roseburn to Corstorphine. Forgot how... Interesting... cycling in heavy traffic is, stationary traffic to my right and a double decker bus a little close for comfort.

Queensferry road likewise total chaos in both directions for weeks now, and no end to the utter mayhem is in sight
What a dirty old town
I feel sorry for public transport users

It wasn't just traffic that was affected the ped crossing lights were not going to the green man for over 5 mins. Was better today going home and all I had to put up with were drivers driving through red and blocking the crossing :(

Tonight’s street surgery has been long advertised, current wait in traffic on Queensferry Rd between me and Barnton is 45 mins. Great night for a ride

If I ruled Edinburgh (heaven help us all), I'd bring in a rule that banned private/business vehicles from using that segment of the road during rush hours.
That would speed up the buses ... probably make them faster than usual.
(But, of course, I'm an extremist nutjob who thinks buses should have priority over cars.)

Traffic congestion is not just caused by roadworks, Edinburgh and the surrounding area is at near saturation point and a small obstruction such as a badly parked car can result in disproportionate delays.Posted 6 years ago # -
If the council would repair the roads and limit the road works
Er...

A different sort of (Edinburgh based) mayhem -
“
Last year the Evening News revealed how the council’s new computer system was in disarray with key components up to 18 months behind schedule and “critical failures” including loss of internet and e-mail occurring every week.“

More chaos -
“
The taxis looked like they were floating on the water. Everybody was trying to jump over the water and one woman had fallen over – it was chaos.

All IT systems fail. The previous supplier was constantly being complained about. The new one has created some jobs in Edinburgh and some new and helpful staff. Quite good new phones though if you forget your pin you have to contact South Wales.
Drainage I guess struggles with one month's rain in a day? Nice to see an outing for the word 'fume' the EEN/Scotman journalist (there is just one now or is it all bots?) usually goes with Fury or Rage. If a person fumes he or she is at least a few notches below raging fury? Not good being cross all the time.

Fuming in humans paradoxically suggests no emissions but a tightly-closed mouth, rather than the exposed, gritted teeth of rage. Presumably this is based on the expressions of characters in comics accompanied by the FX
FUME

If only they'd been able to flume, everyone would have been in a much better mood.

That photo of those fuming traders! Perfect for the web site 'Angry People In Local Newspapers'!

Related: I've noticed the Edinburgh Travel News twitter feed is mentioning alternatives to cars more and more, possibly in response to some prompts from people around here. Well done to them - it may change a few people's habits.

Roadworks on Drum Street have overrun from the weekend. Traffic apparently queueing all the way from Gilmerton crossroads to the Tesco in Eskbank.
4.5 km (not quite 3 miles) of single occupancy vehicles. The whole queue would fit on 10 buses, and queue would only be 120m long.

Traffic chaos as Seafield Recycling Centre reopens to public
Aha, the "clowncil" (chortle) are so incompetent, eh? (Snigger) But wait...
“Umpteen cars still turning right on exit despite signs saying no right turn. Cars on main road having to brake or stop to let them out. This is an accident waiting to happen.”
Do you mean it's the drivers at fault? EEN's dilithium crystals must be overheating, captain - they canna tak it!
Fear not though, the Lib Dems are live and on the scene:
---
Liberal Democrat Cllr Kevin Lang, who was caught up in the queues, said: “The situation at Seafield at the weekend was utter chaos. The new internal road layout makes no sense and it seems as though the number of disposal bins has been reduced significantly. After waiting 20 minutes just to get in, I must have watched more than 100 cars being turned away after officers had to close the centre because of road safety fears. As a council, we should be making it as easy as possible for people to reuse and recycle their household waste. "
---
The disconnect between hundreds of cars being driven, in order to facilitate the conflicting imperative of reusing and recycling household waste, seems to have passed unnoticed by the councillor.

The closure of Bridge Road through Colinton for the next week or so causing tailback this morning from Slateford to Juniper Green. I birled down the inferior track at Matt's bike shop onto WoL path so I was fine.
If still shut when the schools go back I predict something beyond mayhem and chaos I will call Ragnarok

Mayhem, n.: Rowdy confusion, chaos, disorder.
Chaos, n.: A state resembling that of primordial chaos; utter confusion or disorder.Primordial chaos was said to be the personification of primordial matter. "Herebus, the grysly of the deyp hellys see, Chaos, confoundar of elymentis", Chaos being the parent of (H)erebus, the god of darkness, and Nyx, the god of night.
The closure of Bridge Road through Colinton causing tailback this morning from Slateford to Juniper Green
The tailback also extended all the way along the Calder Road in both directions, and from the Calder Road to Longstone to the Land Rover garage to Slateford.
I think to call a steady, well-mannered, extremely slow moving line of motor vehicles 'chaos' is being economical with the truth.
