The daily mail has footage of a collision between a cyclist and a driver.

    Who is to blame?

Video can be watched on the cyclist's twitter feed without going to the DM website: https://twitter.com/BrokenLegs/status/801096870009434112

Good to see that their twitter handle @brokenlegs has been around for a while and presumably isn't related to this incident.

The car is clearly at fault for turning across an opposing traffic lane they didn't know to be clear (and for failing to stop!) It's particularly egregious because the cyclist was filtering down a full width traffic lane and not a bike lane or gap between traffic and the gutter.

It's in everyone's interests to avoid accidents though, even ones where you're not at fault, so the cyclist - being the only one who was actually there - might wish to personally reflect on their experience and whether they could have avoided the accident by riding more defensively at the gap in traffic. That's not really a matter for anyone else though, least of all the police, insurers or an irritating passer-by.

I suspect if the passer-by was on a bus he might yell similarly unwarranted abuse at the driver if he refused to use the bus lane to make progress in similar circumstances.

Always wary when in heavy traffic like that as you often get numpties flashing the car through and the numpty turning right being too stupid to look.

I don't think the cyclist had much of a chance to avoid it. A total disgrace the driver didn't even stop and hopefully he will get caught.

Seems the cretins are accusing the biker again. How the hell did the person in the car not see something taller in broad daylight? They might as well drive into a tree.

Both vehicles (car & bike) should have made their manoeuvres extremely carefully. Both had blind spots where their vision was obscured by other traffic.

The car should have made the turn, very slowly, edging forward until they could clearly see down the bus lane.

The cyclist should have slowed down on approach to the junction. It was clear there was another car waiting to emerge from the side street (who looked liked they were about to go).

Absolutely disgraceful the car involved did not stop.

As with most cases: It takes two to have an accident. This doesn't mean that blame can be equally shared.

If it had been another car coming down the bus lane (imagine a driver breaking the law and using the bus lane!), there would've been a nasty smash. Possibly worse injuries and other cars involved too as the cars get shunted about. But you can be sure that the news outlets wouldn't bother reporting it.

"there would've been a nasty smash"

Perhaps, more likely that the emerging car would have 'taken notice of' the other car. It clearly didn't notice/register the bike - which isn't the same as 'not seeing'.

"But you can be sure that the news outlets wouldn't bother reporting it."

    That's probably true!
