£100,000 for a painting where the main figure is going to need surgery to ever dismount from his bike? Harumph.

I'm digging the handlebars, mud flaps and the lack of lycra. Scarf flapping in the breeze is a nice touch: very Biggles.

I presume the painting is a poetic semi-autobiorgaphical reminiscence. As opposed to a super realistic representation of optimal cycling behaviours. Having said that, it wouldn't be the first time someone has set their saddle too low. For a Ken Currie, it ain't a bad picture.

    Oh yeah.

Bottom bracket seems to be about a third of the way up the down tube too. Unless the left hand 'pedal' is just a foot rest?

Shouldn't mock. 'The Oncologists' is one of my favourite works in the national collection, though I can't look at it for long before timor mortis conturbat me.

The light may have been sold by lumens not lux as although very bright the beam does get past the mud guard

To be honest it looks like he's fitted a medieval comet to his improvised headset.

I'd love to see a Thomas Kinkaid version of this work.

How is he going to slow down or stop? Maybe that is why he is sitting so low down, he needs to be able to jam his feet on the floor.

Nah, he's riding fixed. No need for brakes unless the chain snaps or the feet come of the pedals...
