Don't think he ever lived in either.
Lived up at Fox Covert by the Moat House hotel, if I'm not mistaken.

Surely TM's call to vote Tory as the only way to stuff SNP will be like a red rag to many Scots, to vote any way but Tory if they can't bring themselves to vote SNP.

The call HAS to be Vote Tactically and I am seriously worried to see so many seats with vote splitting stupidity that could deliver a Tory seat by default of vanity/chauvanist candidates. Patrick Field for example in Glasgow North seems unlikely to win the seat but likely to split the vote seriously.

The best result has to be one where no party has any clear majority and an alliance forces a radical coalition that will deliver a proper PR voting system, some form of making the failure to use your vote a mark-down that requires a positive re-registration, whilst those who exercise their right remain on the register.

In one local election I found 18 polling cards delivered to a single (8-flat) close, of which only 2 were for current residents, offering a massive opportunity for personation, and setting a question mark over the reported voter turn-out figures, when there may well be a high % of 'dead' voter registrations. Almost worth checking your local street? We found one famous Scots actor - long moved from Glasgow, still registered at their old address.

Remember too to mobilise - in 1997 a neighbour watched as minibuses ferried potential voters to Keir Hardie House to assist them in completing their voter registrations, and if required, postal or proxy vote forms... and the result was a surprise for the SNP in Govan....

Will the new system prevent that sort of occurence?

In Edinburgh, which is hardly typical of the rest of Scotland, the SNP ANNIHILATION of Scottish labour has let the Tories back in. I.e. Those tartan Tories who were voting SNP to oust labour, can vote real Tory now and they are.

I heard from horse's mouth at farmers market that the SNP are not bothered about this, which is a shame as the enemy is the Tories.

However, as I am very ecumenical these days I guess the strategic thinking is that tory revival will help with independence, which I am afraid it won't. Which is also the point about channellling so much focus on independence, it lets the Tories in to rip the heart out of our communities.

Just my curious opinion I know but go on SNP you have annihilated Scottish labour, so why not focus on the Tories now?

"Just my curious opinion I know but go on SNP you have annihilated Scottish labour, so why not focus on the Tories now?"

Not pretending to have any particular insight or any idea about 'what the SNP thinks'.

But it all depends on the voters.

Clearly there are people who think 'anyone but Lab' so easy to switch SNP to Tory (where some will have been previously).

Then there are those who might think about 'fair play' and/or 'give the other lot a chance', so some might go back to Lab.

Of course there is also the reality that you can't assume that the same people will change their allegiances rather than staying at home (last time or this time).

Bottom line is SNP will get lots of seats (but not same no as last time). Tories 'should' get more than one.

    There will be surprises.

I expect the odds on all three non SNP MPs losing their seats will be long enough to be worth a punt!

I was knocking posh doors yesterday and a very well groomed gentleman sprayed me with mouthfuls of cake as he shouted at me that BLACK AFRICANS ARE STUPID AND MUSLIMS ARE VIOLENT AND IT'S NOT PREJUDICE I HAVE THE EVIDENCE. I don't think he was mad, just a proper nineteen fifties racist who had lain dormant as spores or a rhizome or something. He will vote Conservative.

@iwrats, what sort of cake? Anyone who starts a sentence It's not racist, will go on to make a racist remark?

@chdot I think Joanna Cherry will lose but I think TommybSheppard will win. I am not sure about the third.?

Campaigners have warned that Scotland risks squandering the legacy of youth engagement in politics from the 2014 independence referendum amid a “looming registration disaster”.

A former Liberal Democrat councillor in Scotland’s capital city has backed the Conservatives, adding “something of a revolution” is building under leader Ruth Davidson.
Alastair Shields, who represented the Lib Dems in Edinburgh’s Almond ward last term, said he would now campaign for the Scottish Conservatives in Edinburgh West.
He said the party was “ticking both boxes” when it came to respecting the results of the independence and EU referendums, and “fighting hardest for the centre ground”.

ordinary voters have a wonderful tendency to decide for themselves what they think is the key issue of the day. And it’s not always what the politicians, media or pollsters are punting.

THERESA May will today insist that Brexit “must bring us together as a united country” as she announces a new Conservative Government would means-test the winter fuel payment.

Launching her party’s manifesto, “Forward, Together,” in a Labour marginal in northern England, the Prime Minister says in its foreword the process of EU withdrawal means the next five years will be the most challenging of her lifetime and will "define" the country.

“Now more than ever, Britain needs a strong and stable government to get the best deal for our country…[and] to make the most of the opportunities that Brexit brings.”

The Tories will promise further measures to curb immigration in their manifesto, the BBC understands.

Firms will be asked to pay more to hire migrant workers and they in turn will be asked to pay more to use the NHS.

Theresa May will make a commitment to bringing immigration down to the tens of thousands target, which has been missed since 2010.

She will warn that "when immigration is too fast and too high, it is difficult to build a cohesive society".

The BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg said that the prime minister would put forward an "uncompromising" message that immigration is too high and would come down under her leadership.

Edinburgh councillors vote by 44 to 18 to seek a Low Emission Zone for the city to reduce air pollution.

.@ScotGov is seeking to support Scotland's 1st LEZ. There's also interest from Glasgow City Council to establish an LEZ.

    Michael Gray‏ @GrayInGlasgow
The 18 councillors against a LEZ were the Tories. Guess they went for 'No #indyref2' on leaflets as 'Say No to cleaner air' wasn't snappy.

The centre ground must have moved somewhat. Quite a tectonic shift.

Anyone fancy challenging the Conservative councillor for St. Johns Road as to how they are voting against a LEZ when they have Scotland's most polluted street in their ward?

Yeah, maybe we could have council stuff in the CEC election thread instead of the General Election thread? Just a thought.

@acsimpson - I don't think you can do any better than searching for their name on twitter and sorting by "latest". Not perfect, but seems to work in this case:

Great new plan to stop poor, chaotic and odd people from voting.

This is the closest I've come to breaking the rules on this forum.

One of the hazards of having a Home Secretary become PM. The Home Office civil servants have lots of schemes like this lying around that they dust down and present whenever a Home Sec is under pressure and wants to look tough (e.g. ID cards, immigration "clampdowns"). Usually they get canned only to reappear years later; perhaps May remembered being shown this one and has included it in the manifesto.

Home Secretary is a valid noun in this sentence. There are others...

If I were to hazard a guess I'd say this idea came from the Tory's American election advisers. Complex, expensive and onerous voter registration is a standard method of hindering black Americans from voting.
