All entitled to their own opinion.
Only thing I am struggling with is the idea this wasteground was a community woodland.
THe area was I think self seeded and had no woodland paths or anything just dog poo and the occaional needle?
SKELF came up with a great idea. THey consulted over a long period.
No other uses for the wasteland were ever proposed in the extended period between the idea being proposed and then realised.
As Mark Steel noted on his recent trip to Barnard Castle in Co. Durham THe trouble with tourist attractions is they attract tourists.
So the bike park is being well used. Shame if you don;t like that sort of thing? Or set up a wee cafe out a van and make some cash?

Also being used by locals (esp kids) and has locals as volunteer 'caretakers'
Lotsa needles.

Any truth in the rumour that the bike police all ended up at Skelf Bike Park after @POPScotland?"

The opinion piece in the EEN is, Surprise! by the key objector who kicked off drove the (mostly online) campaign to try to block the project last year...
She is, almost heroically, still on the war path & continues to fire off epic, borderline unhinged screeds to anyone who will listen (including amusingly the local outpost of the fourth estate).
The 'Stop Skelf' FB page is here if you need more batshit crazy in your life:
All very tiresome, but at the end of the day, the bike park is built & very popular, and views like hers seem increasingly isolated.

still no supportive comments on the EEN page - must be a record!

Don't suppose many Skelf users bother with the EN.
Posted 7 years ago # -
Ah yes, the EEN, without question my favourite newspaper; soft, strong and thoroughly absorbent.

Other way round. No supporters of the complainer are in the comments.
Everyone is positive about it

Indeed - we've been there 3 times in the last 10 days.
A guy working hard on the landscaping around the entrance asked my opinion 'as a cyclist' on desire lines and suitable plants/shrub layouts for guiding people/bikes along paths. So if you find yourself wondering 'what were they thinking' then you can partially blame me.
