A Mediterranean diet

This is the most amazing medical article I've ever read...

    (From the British Medical Journal)

Saturated fat does not clog the arteries: coronary heart disease is a chronic inflammatory condition, the risk of which can be effectively reduced from healthy lifestyle interventions:

    http://bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/2017/03/31/bjsports-2016-097285

    Summary:

Saturated fats do not cause heart attacks - sugar, fructose, refined carbs, a sedentary lifestyle and stress do.

We should all be eating Mediterranean diets (vegetables, extra virgin olive oil, oily fish*, nuts) and exercising daily.

Decades of emphasis on the primacy of lowering plasma cholesterol, as if this was an end in itself and driving a market of ‘proven to lower cholesterol’ and ‘low-fat’ foods and medications, has been misguided.

    And the piece de resistance:

Coronary artery disease is a chronic inflammatory disease and it can be reduced effectively by walking 22 min a day and eating real food. There is no business model or market to help spread this simple yet powerful intervention.

*Women of child-bearing age or younger should be careful how much fish they eat due to mercury content which remains in the body forever (thanks to man-made pollution)

A friend of mine, occasionally OTP, is a doctor and has been telling everyone this for years.

I've also seen people adopting the high fat, medium protein, low carb diet with remarkable weight loss effects. Essentially the Western world is eating way too much junk.

I only buy peanut butter made with peanuts and a bit of salt, but it's easy to make your own in the blender.

The paper is controversial - see e.g. https://www.theguardian.com/science/2017/apr/25/qa-saturated-fat-your-health-and-what-the-experts-say

It seems like a tricky area.

only one person's story, but this is worth a read from a cyclist's POV.

I get the impression that those who have the discipline will lose weight whichever diet they follow.

I know that when I over-carb, I do feel awful, whereas it is harder not to do that on a low carb diet...

Le Roi Fou on forth street is doing lamb chop, lamb shoulder and lamb belly all on the one plate tomorrow lunchtime. Pricey but great. Also caters for vegetarians like moi

No but they have tomme de vache which is a lovely alpine cheese and green and white asparagus.

For me special occasion only such as tomorrow because Mrs G has survived school camp though she does have a bad back from trying to lift an obese pupil who broke her foot.
