Doctors say most PE lessons neglect all-round fitness

Experts say many children do not get a proper workout which helps them develop coordination, strength and agility.

The British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine wants all schools to use a short exercise routine called "five-in-five".

It doesn't help that PE is no longer a compulsory subject for 4th & 5th years in some schools. Well at least that is the case at the high school that my son goes to

If you don't take PE as an O' grade subject then you don't have to participate in PE classes, as you can now gain a qualification in it and those not hoping to gain this qualification are exempt. Not enough exercise is only one factor in the obesity explosion. Food being available to those with no self-control 24/7 is actually the biggest problem because they just don't stop eating.
