Hope Park Terrace Dismount

At the bottom of Hope Park Terrace, facing the junction onto Melville Drive, there's a large pavement blocking Cyclists Dismount and Use Footpath sign. I don't usually see much justified purpose of these but this one has nothing, there's no visible road works or any other obstructions. It's been there for well over a week, briefly disappeared, but now returned. Anyone got any idea what it's for?

Starting to wonder if it's some Summerhall based art project, waiting to see what it takes for a sign to end up in the bushes.

@drafternoon, maybe it is a psychology experiment to see if anyone complies?

There was one on the pavement at new street. I think to stop cyclists using pavement to avoid temp traffic light. It has gone now too.

Lot of temp traffic lights around at moment.

I saw that too, but I dismissed it.

Perhaps this is not in fact a council sign but a sort of psychosomatic manifestation of the Evening News comments threads?

PS 'Hope Park' is the original name of the Meadows when they were laid out. I vote that we start using it again. Middle Hope Park Walk and such.

Cyclist Dismount on New Street turned right way now and refers to the plazza where the food shacks are. Negotiated discount of 50-p on can of posh lemonade from shack operative. She said the shacks are losing money just by being open.

There is as yet little draw to those quarters for those who don't work in Waverley Court

If East Market St were transformed from a rat run to a trendy permanent market one might see a difference.

Yes, the arches are doing some business but further east the shacks are a shanty town of skateboarders. All the streets around just now are total mess because of the hlupyrood barriers. The shack keepers are hoping for a good summer.

There seems to be a problem that the Transport (or should that be roads) department at the Cooncil have yet to understand that businesses need footfall, not drive passed...

Kicking cars out can have a positive effect on on business, but only if you make cycling and walking easy at the same time.
