"Why can't none car owners [sic - well done the Evening Standard], who outnumber car owners, have something nice in their spot?" Just a little unfortunate that this quote appears above a photo of the "people parking space" right outside a large public park with people lounging in the sunshine. Perhaps not the best location to try to make your point?

I'm not against the point that Ms Peuch is trying to achieve. I do think there are ways, and ways, to go about campaigning, and I wonder whether this one hasn't got it quite right.

I think it's brilliant. We talked about this similar but temporary concept at an early WCFS meeting: http://parkingday.org/

I would love to see this happen at location across Edinburgh next year!

Didnt we discuss getting a roll of astroturf or carpet and a few deck chairs and paying the meter for a space on George St ?

I know I discussed it with someone - no clue who.

...maybe we discussed it in Diggers?

Glasgow had one outside the CCA (Third Eye to us of greater vintage) on Sauchie a couple of years ago, and GSA closes Renfrew Street outside main entrance for degree day events.

Brenda has gained some traction and the Council is 'considering' other uses for parking bays. meanwhile the guerilla parklet has now moved to Tower Hamlets with Islington bidding for the next moves if/when the Council serves an eviction notice.

Remember though that if the road can be shown as redundant as a means to get between 2 public places than it can be stopped up and removed from the list of roads. As such the land then reverts to the owner of the solum which usually means the frontager(s) as set out on title deeds.

I'd like to try this with road outside on the basis that the parking is little used, and the Council has no remit to provide roads for parking (only for moving traffic) Ergo all parking on my land should be stopped up and returned to me for use as garden extension(s)

Not quite the same thing, but the installation I photographed is just past a
road closure complete with proper cycle permeability gaps.
