So the local traders are going to love it when they shut the street down again for the cycle path work. And I guess council is not going to bother resurfacing the road while this is going on either.

Are those cycle path works the long awaited Roseburn to West End segregated cycle way do you think?

"...the work is at the opposite side of the street so workmen would have had to close Haymarket Terrace completely for both sewer and gas works to be done at the same time."

For the second time in as many days, Jemima Rhubarbthwaite, proprietrix of Rhubarbthwaite Sandwiches open daily from 8am until late for all your year-round sandwich requirements appeared in the purported newspaper griping that a personal vendetta was being waged against her under the premise of the maintenance of public facilities. Michael Peighnuts, a local trouser salesman and owner of Peighnuts Clothing please visit our air-conditioned showroom for a free test-fitting also decried the utilities update, declaring it a war on the otherwise law-abiding indignant local NIMBY. "It's absolutely impossible to vend high-quality portable trousers at low prices in such conditions," he advertised, "especially not between 10am and 5pm weekdays."

Once Haymarket Terrace is restored to its natural state of being a taxi tank then business will boom once more.

It seems that, in their excitement at its reopening for traffic both directions, drivers of motor vehicles seem to have forgotten the 20mph limit on Haymarket Terrace.

I have to admit that it was quite pleasant, when pedestrianising while the roadworks were in place, to be able to cross the road relatively easily and safely. It now seems to have reverted to its former state as a kind of low-grade urban raceway, meaning that there is nowhere safe to cross west of the Haymarket Yards junction until you get beyond Devon Place. (And TBH the crossings at Haymarket Yards, and east of Rosebery Crescent, are irritatingly slow anyway.) I suspect that this could have just as much of an impact on footfall in the shops as does people not being able to park (often illegally) right outside the door of the shop.

Given that this is the busiest time of year for pedestrian visitors to Edinburgh, I have to say that I haven't so far noticed eager festival goers thronging the street and patronising the retail businesses based there. (They do seem to like riding the tram to and from their airb'n'bs, though.)

I will echo the same sentiment of Leith Walk where years of roadworks (ending as of last Autumn) made actually crossing the road really quite safe and easy (wherever there wasn’t barriers) due to significantly reduced road width and speed of drivers

Have some of those "DING DING don't step in front of trams!" boards been installed around the lamp-posts or tram-cable supports, as they have on Princes Street, to aid festivalgoers and tourists in not suffering collisions with the trams?

What burns me the most about Haymarket is the giant red "CAUTION CYCLISTS ON ROAD" sign. Like "tree down" or "sheep on the road" or "slippery when wet" or some other nuisance/obstruction. If there was ever an indicator that motor vehicles are default and cyclists are other, this is it in spades.

I spotted that all of the signs showing parking/loading restrictions haven't been replaced. Does that mean they aren't enforceable at the moment?
