    "Reading the page above I don't suspect next week will be any better"

    Not least because the number of people who read/understand/agree will be small.

    I saw someone turning from Princes Street westbound into South St David St do their best to use the lane, heading from secondary, but it took them from a daft position relative to the following taxi and left them in a worse position, where the taxi revved impatiently past.
    I tried to experiment with the one to turn into Waverley Bridge from Princes Street eastbound, but it isn't in the right place.

    Without a proper overhaul of the layout. To me it seems only solution is advance green lights for cyclists all down the street. Fine if you get to the lights at the wrong time they won't be much use, but you hit so many red lights down there that it would be immensely useful. Cycling down there yesterday was just hilariously unpleasant.

    "PLEASE NOTE: a 'car length' is actually the length of the whole car, not the distance from the driver's eyes to the bonnet."

    "CYCLISTS - if you choose not to follow this advice and take another route across the tracks, it's technically YOU who is was the active travel budget, not us by printing these things."

    any resemblance to actual Edinburgh traffic conditions is accidental

    @Stickman

    Even in their best case ham-it-up-for-the-cameras scenario the lady has to swing wide round a sunken metal hatch cover with crumbling tarmac;

    The natural line in aggressive traffic is straight over that.

    Very tense indeed. Anyone know who she is? Be interesting to know how she felt about the exercise.

    The "I Bike Dublin" campaign are having a "Cyclists Dismount" protest today. A large group of them are currently wheeling their bikes through the Dublin tram tracks in protest at the lack of consideration for cyclists.

    "Edinburgh tram track death: Transport convener's safety vow"

    Making a wild surmise about this incident I have attempted to report breaches of the Public Service Vehicles (Conduct of Drivers, Inspectors, Conductors and Passengers) Regulations 1990 in respect of tour bus driver-guides speaking to passengers on a bus in motion.

    Not yet has anyone taken such a report seriously. I started with the Traffic Commissioners but perhaps it's the police I should be trying?

    Oh my.

    The anniversary of Zhi Min Soh's death is today.

    We should have held another vigil. Not to be forgotten.

    IWRATS - the 1990 Regulations were made under the provisions of Section 24 of the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981. This is clear that a driver who fails to comply with the requirements of the Regulations is committing an offence - although the maximum penalty on summary conviction is a paltry £500.

    Could be a police matter - but I think we all know how they would deal with any complaint.

    It's the anniversary of Zhi Min Soh's death, and still no official fatal accident report!

    Edinburgh's transport convener has vowed to make the city's streets safe a year after a cyclist was killed after her wheel got stuck in tram tracks.

    Zhi Min Soh, 23, was hit by a minibus on Princes Street, at its junction with Lothian Road on Wednesday 31 May 2017.

    The Edinburgh University medical student, from Malaysia, was regarded as "a bright star for the future".

    "Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of Zhi Min Soh," convener Lesley Macinnes said.

    "We are absolutely determined to make Edinburgh's streets as safe and user-friendly as they can be for everyone who walks, cycles, takes a bus, tram or drives along them and our ambitious new Central Edinburgh Transformation project seeks to make the city centre safer and more welcoming for pedestrians and cyclists in particular."

    Back to the ‘we can improve everything for everyone’ fantasy.

    Failed at Picardy Place and Leith Street, not much optimism over Leith Walk - though of course the “as they can be” will be used to explain all the things that weren’t “practical” or “cost effective”.
