That takes 15 minutes maximum, well worth letting HES know they need to close the roads in the park, and be more ambitious.

This has got to be good news, right? The fact that they are consulting suggests that they might be looking to take positive steps.

I see from that twitter thread that the motorists have once again (temporarily)rediscovered their deep and sincere concern for the disabled and their plight.

Nevermind the inaccessible entrances, narrow paths, speeding cars, lack of crossings, lack of dropped kerbs, or being forced to share space with cyclists, no no the real impediment to people with impairments enjoying the park is the road closures...

Well yes, you'd have thought that there would be at least some questions in the consultation about the impact of road closures on people with protected characteristics*...oh, hang on...there are.

I note that they list rock climbing as one of the activities that you can indicate that you undertake in the park. I've ticked that although AFAIK the main climbing area, in South Quarry, has been off limits since the Radical Road was closed due to rockfall further along (the South Quarry is well set back from the RR and there is minimal risk to passers by from falling rocks, or indeed falling climbers, in that particular area). I know the SMC Lowland Outcrops guide book lists climbs further along but I believe everything beyond the South Quarry was supposedly off limits, and this was policed to a greater or lesser degree by the park wardens. There are also routes listed on other outcrops within the park but I don't know anyone who has actually bothered venturing on to them other than for a bit of a scramble on the way to the summit of Arthur's Seat.

    * Though how many gammons will actually know what that means may be another matter...

    Someone please remind me.

Is it known who pays for the ‘main road’ through the Park?

Is that the same as who maintains the top road?

    (Additionally any idea of cost?)

Yes, people from the mountaineering club I'm a member of used to climb in Holyrood Park just as ejstubbs describes, but I don't think anyone I know has climbed there for a while. I've never climbed there myself (I was never much of a climber).

I recently advised a visitor to the city who was wanting to ascend Arthur’s seat in a golf buggy.

I said off road shop mobility scooter could go up the crags path

Yodhrin - only ones that drive. It's to give car use a bit of leverage.

Port they can't forcibly make the golf people allow a cycle diversion through the golf course, or close the golf course too in case the golf people get rocked. SfP on Duddingston Road West are of the end-just-where-you-need-them-most flavour.

Family and friends cycled down to Portobello this morning, no signs on the way out and ended up ignoring the signs and continuing along the innocent path on the way home. No real option to go any other way back home with 6 to 9 year olds!

Historic Scotland finally answered my tweet. They’re claiming that they only closed the road. And that closing of the Innocent is responsibility of the council.

Still not clear if it *is* closed?

Is it correct that Innocent is not actually closed?

a council source tells me it is closed and they are 'trying' to signpost a diversion.

As of Friday, there are signs indicating that it's closed. But nothing actually in place to stop someone travelling down.

Anyone know how long it's going to be closed for, is it worth setting as closed on OSM? (most router planners take 2-4 weeks to update, so not always worth tracking every closure)

I came across this company from the Netherlands making buses called Movitas today and had a brief moment imagining a lovely future where the park was closed to motor traffic and the roads were just bicycles and an occasional one of their dinky wee electrics going up & down at 10mph.

Then my inner cynic reasserted itself.

Signage mentioned Innocent Path closed until 22 July. Is the way actually blocked or can you still use it 'unofficially'? My son needs to cycle to the Meadows next week and this obviously the preferable route...

There’s under a week left for you to take part in our survey on the road networks in Holyrood Park.

4000 people have responded but are they the right people? Local people for instance and specifically those called John McClellan must surely count more than 4000 people?

HES of course have closed the low road anyway, but fairs fair also the innocent tunnel and innocent overland above the tunnel. But do not enforce the tunnel. Funny old world

Holyrood Park bosses – under fire for failing to respond to local concerns over a road closure – have now sent an email saying new measures are planned to prevent rock falls on the route.
