So, who's managed to get a new path built?

There's a disused railway line near us (Neilston - Uplawmoor - Lugton, for those interested). It joins those three settlements which are spaced a walkable distance apart. The alternative is a 60mph unlit country road with no pavements, and a bus service that's just been cut back to beyond the point of usefulness.

The line runs through a combination of overgrown stuff and grazing farmland.

Apparently a study was done a little while back about the practicalities of getting a path built. It ground to a halt, but I'm trying to get hold of it again. One would have thought that with all this extra active transport budget now sloshing about, we might have a hope of getting a bit of funding...

Anyone got any experience of organising something like this? I can sketch out a process in my head, but I've no doubt it's more complicated than it appears!

Contact Sustrans - may/not have done survey.

Key things are landownership and local support.

If you’re serious about starting a campaign, talk to locals who might use it, schools, politicians etc.

    Might not be quick/easy -

Good luck! Such a thing can only be positive.

Does that path tie into any other useful infrastructure - eg to Paisley, Glasgow?

Paths for All can also help. They've got development officers who will advise community groups on how best to proceed and point people towards grants.

@darkeride, I had you as living out beyond Helensburgh, not a regular at the Paraffin Lamp once you get that path built.

Maybe the document you link to would help us in our quest yo pave WoL path?

Not a new path but the route down from WoL Path to Towpath which has been very lumpy for a number of years has now been whacked to flat. This is a nice development

Is that Scottish water reinstatement? Still not paved presumably, so a temporary reprieve...
