Just be thankful they are bollards and not huge tubular steel fences (sorry, chicanes).

They removed the chicane to put one of those bollards in at the entrance/exit on South Trinity Road, so it's not all bad. Makes access much easier there, anyway.

Does anyone know of any other chicanes which have been removed?

The second entrance up Wester Coates Trce has few bollards instead of a what I think was a chicane, but I honestly can't remember.

The W. Coates Terrace entrance hasn't had chicanes for donkey's. I like the way that the gutters have been removed or smoothed at a lot of the entrances. Makes it much more comfortable.

The bollards don't seem to have any high reflective bits though, so it wouldn't surprise me if we hear of nighttime collisions with them.

I think that in some places they have tarmaced over desire lines where people have been cutting corners.

There's still a bit awaiting re-cornering on the WoL at the West Bowling Green turnoff. At least they've filled in the Largo Place trench.

Struggling to use up that pesky active travel budget with bollards? Remember that even a few dabs of paint still cost money to apply:

I also object to the whole thing being made to look like a road. Give way lines aren’t necessary on a bike path - that is motoring paraphernalia

I agree @neddie. Anyone who cares will ride considerately. Anyone who doesn't care won't notice the markings.

"There doesn't need to be a history of motor vehicles on a footpath for CEC to throw chicanes at it!"

There doesn't always even need to be a history of a footpath. There's plenty of chance for a new path to have chicanes installed prior to opening.

Dropped kerbs are more expensive than either paint or posts and not a lot harder it install. They should put some of those in instead.

What I can't understand is the need for several work vehicles to be travelling almost the entire length of the Silverknowes path when the only work being carried out is at the very end of it at Silverknowes. Also can't understand why whatever work they are doing could not have been done when the shut the path at this location months ago.

aw, i thought the white lines were pretty....

the only benefit i can see to them is reminding people after dark that there are paths coming in there. i sometimes see people flying through that little junction, and agree--those who care are already careful. those who don't, won't notice.

Id guess the white lines are a visual clue to people, especially people who don't use the path often.

There was a sign at the Eildon Street turn-off warning that the Goldenacre path would be shut for its drainage works for 1 day on the 27th of August.

Given where they are currently working on the Silverknowes/Blackhall path I strongly suspect the vehicles are using it to avoid getting caught in traffic. Unsure where the vehicles are coming on but it is a far distance from where they are working.

Cycled from Haymarket to Blackhall via NEPN on Saturday and the benches seemed to be getting good use from middle aged couples.

I notice the bollard they installed in Davidson’s Mains has been removed. That was quick.

I cycled to work today for the first time in a very long time (young man has started school so I can at last incorporate cycling in my commute again). I was delighted to see that the gate/chicane at the Ravelston Dykes entry, and the one 50 yards further down, have gone, with just a bollard at the top and the remnants of the fence at the lower one. Such a shame I don't use the trailer any more (which needed to be lined up with mm precision to get through).

On my 'bent, I have once - and only once - managed to get through the chicane when crossing Cramond Road South and heading east from Barnton Avenue without needing to put a foot down and struggle up the incline.
Any chance of a bollard here ?

They seem to have turfed over some of the verges near the red bridge using very expensive looking "garden centre" pre-grown turf. I'm sure it'll be mangled back into muddy ruts by their own vehicles soon enough.

Why they couldn't use inexpensive lawn seed I don't know. September is the absolute perfect time of year to sow grass.

    Oh. Burning cash...

I came here to report that the Ravelston Dykes chicane had been replaced by a bollard and found that LiviD had beaten me to it!
(Not that I can cycle up that slope anyway.)

Bollards in position at St Marks Park, including a new one at entrance to NEPN proper.

it may be costing a few bob but we'll have a very nice NEPN shortly. I even walked along a bit of it recently...

@Fimm I cycled up it for the first time in a long time on Wednesday - new electric bike might be a factor in my success though! :)
