@Iain McR - Well, obviously last night's enormous plate of pasta paid dividends.

Glad to see @HankChief hasn't broken you. (Yet.)

I'm concerned that he's left the others in a snowdrift somewhere. Last Twitter pic only shows ONE bike...

    Home and warmed up now.

Both balance and circulation were maintained, although it was a close run thing on both counts at times.

I've had Wet Wet Wet in my head all afternoon:

Can't feel it in my fingers
Can't feel it in my toes
    Looking all around us
    Lots and lots of snow

4000th mile of 2017 was passed about 5 miles north of Lockerbie. A wiser person would have turned round and got the next train home from Lockerbie. Glad I'm not a wiser person.

I hit my target of 300 days on the bike today :-)

Technically the ride to Haymarket would have been sufficient but where's the glory in that, when I could be doing 105miles from before dawn to well after sunset with views like these...

I made my target in Aug then my new target in Nov, this was mostly about ensuring victory in annual distance comp with southern based nemesis. I have a +600km lead, but I know he has a week's worth of rides to upload (he is very sneaky)- surely he cant pip me. Other than PY and lunch in Porty 2moro, don't think I'll out again this year.

    behold

yes, I may have climbed more, but his usually riding a 38kg YubaMundo cargo bike and carrying a Westie (Wilma) on the back - so possibly a hollow victory.

I'm 800km short of this years target but am planning a DIY 200 on Sunday which will complete my 2018 RRtY challenge.
Plus I'm going to do the Rapha Festive 500 over Chrimbo again.
Add on my usual 150km weekly commutes and I'll be on target.
That said if you are looking for company on a long ride then keep me posted on details.
Next year is PBP but after the last one I said I wouldn't do it again but as it gets closer I start to think maybe...

    Great. The more the merrier.

My annual stats are such that I will make 300 days but no where near my targeted 5,000 miles so nothing especially to play for but another Century and ticking over 4,000 miles would be nice.

    2018 so far...

Thinking would be to pick a day between Christmas & New Year and see where we could head, an early train to Carlisle & back up is one option, but open to others - maybe back from Morpeth if you know a good route.

My preference would be for Saturday 29th (when there would be early trains), but could do 30th or 31st.

Not sure how likely I am to be in Edinburgh after the 29th, but will be game if I am around.

Just looking at train times (Sat or Mon)..

Its a little more expensive (£30) but it looks like you can take the sleeper from Edinburgh (0450) to Arrochar (0708) and then come home via Lochearnhead and Glendevon for a Century

    Alternatives are
    0614 to Carlisle 0734 (£10)
    0548 to Morpeth 0709 (£10)

Later trains do exist but I'd rather get up and at 'em rather than having too much dark to finish.

I want to get to 8400km and 100000m of ascent, but have finished work for the year, so have a few chances - booked one way ticket to Berwick so that should do 150km and hope to do the same to Leuchars or Dundee, but reckon I'll need to do a lot of local laps and hill reps to have a chance beyond that.

And I have to be done by the 19th... No chance I think.

31st is preferred with 29th as possible. Need to pick a date soon as domestic planning had commenced.

@Gembo - funnily enough I have a copy on my bedside table :-)

@Iain McR - agreed about setting a date soon. Anyone else* want to have the deciding vote on dates...

I'm available pretty much free every day from 22nd Dec through to 03 Jan.
I like the sound of going over to Arrochar and riding home from there.
Planning is not my strong point so happy to go with the flow.

95 miles from Arrochar to Cramond Brig

    https://www.strava.com/routes/16383395

If there was the risk of ice, Crieff could be swapped for Braco.

Getting off at Garelochhead (0645) would add 10 lovely Lochside (dark) miles but save £15. #justsaying

Hmmm. Phoned Caledonian Sleeper. Despite their website selling tickets, they said that 0450 pickup in Edinburgh is just for them to pick up new carriages rather than passengers.

I'm a bit miffed by this as it would make a lovely route and the timetable does look like it is possible as Edinburgh is marked with a 'p' meaning 'Stops to pick up only'

    https://www.sleeper.scot/timetables/london-fortwilliam

It also says "All guests who book bikes on our Fort William service are required to move these to a new coach during a changeover of coaches at Edinburgh Waverley" so it sounds like it will be in Edinburgh long enough to board.

    Should we still risk it?

Well it’s in ScotRail app as a train you can catch.

So what happens if you buy a ticket online & show up at the station?

I'd go to the station to try and book it. The staff there will generally be more knowledgeable and have a better booking system.

You've heard this one before (Aberdeen POP) but I might be interested in a don't plan for me sort of way. I'm not a fan of early starts or leisure riding in the rain though. If the stars align I might see if your route will be such that I can ride out and meet you on the way back.

I have previously caught that 0450 sleeper service to Corrour. Don't rely on my experience, though, it was probably nearly 20 years ago that I did it, so they may have changed policy since.

While I am normally one for top-up rides, I'm going to have to give this year's a miss. I'm away until 30 December and at work on 31 December. I'm also very unfit at present, so would not be good company as you'd get too cold waiting for me.
