Someone I know is coming from Liberton. Is there any feeder ride? She'd heard of one in Fairmilehead.

Yes! Leaving Inch House at 10:45am.

All the feeder rides (we know of ...) are listed here https://pedalonparliament.org/pop-edinburgh/getting-there/#feeder-rides - including a handy map this year

I've just realised this one is on the map and the FB group but not properly listed! Adding it now but the Facebook event is here https://www.facebook.com/events/2008701859394808/

    “Pedal on Parliament-ers”

No, "Pedlars on Parliament". But excellent work by whoever caused that to appear!

    And...

As if to prove a point, they've dug a trench across the bike path on MMW, right by the cycle counter.

Complete with massive yellow "Cyclists Dismount" signs and Heras fencing as well.

    You couldn't make it up...

(Wish I'd taken a picture of it now)

@neddie: apparently it will be cleared for Saturday.

Will someone be doing a Strava flyby again this year?

I hope they put a 'Cyclists re-mount" sign up after the obstruction. Otherwise it will take an awful long time for 5000 cyclists to walk down the Royal Mile on Saturday.

It actually says "Cyclists dismount through works" which makes it better than most. Not really necessary anyway though.

Nobody was taking a blind bit of notice of any signage when I passed.

It's the university digging, and they've promised to have it filled in for Saturday. Council never informed them of the event.

    @stickman - you volunteering?

We've been assured that the surface will be (temporarily) reinstated for the weekend. Trying to get a dozen tandem riders, half of them visually impaired, dismounted and then remounted will be a logistical challenge otherwise. Not to mention the Cycling Without Age rickshaws

I intend to collect data for a Strava heat map / flyby. Apologies in advance if I push in at the front of MMW. As per last year I will need to wait until all riders have passed me.

Be useful if we have a backup data gatherer.

I'll be there and running my GPS watch. Given that (I believe) I'm marshalling - last year we were sent off the front to our spots, then eveyone cycled past us - you could probably use my data if you need to?

I've had an email about the Harrison Park feeder ride, but don't seem to have one about marshalling.
    PM sent.

I'll be there and running my Garmin GPS. I have traces of 2015, 2016 and 2017 PoPs. I'll probably roll out the Elephant Bike for this year.

Can someone say when I'll be able to collect my PoP t-shirt? I ordered it last Friday.

I will try to be at the Harrison feeder ride with spyt2&3
I see no SRD around. Holiday perhaps? Have I missed too much while I have been away?

Spoke with the guys doing the digging on MMW. The trench should be fixed and they will be attending PoP if they can borrow bikes (they are over from Donegal for the work).

I noticed one of the tactiles they'd disturbed on the cycle side had a quite a deep parallel gap in it between the next one.

Deep enough and wide enough to possibly swallow a 23mm tyre...

Strongly recommend someone inspects the work

@Neddie - thanks for the spot. I've raised this with the University manager but likely they'll be sorting this out with the rest of the "finishing off work" they're doing this afternoon. Worth checking though!

I've also been informed that an electrical company have dug up the royal mile... excellent... should be fine though...

Remember to take a wee brush of some sort with you if you're leading a feeder ride, in case any oaves with glass bottles are about on your route overnight. If you're heading home today along any popular bike routes, please try to brush away any glass sprinklings you see. Wallpaper paste brushes are the ideal compact/portable tool for this but clumps of grass or spare fallen leafy branches work OK in a pinch.
