"One in four were not confident they had bought the cheapest ticket".

Not exactly a problem confined to the youthful.

  3. Surely the ticket price confusion isn't applicable to Lothian Buses?

The choice of what to buy when boarding is simple:

Child ticket - are you a child? If so, buy this.
Adult Ticket - are you an adult? If so, buy this.
Daysaver - making more than 3 bus trips today? If so, buy this.
Network Ticket - making more than 3 bus or tram trips today including travel to/from Edinburgh Airport? If so, buy this.
Night Ticket - will you be travelling on a Night Bus? If so, buy this.

Deciding the cheapest fare here surely isn't rocket science? ;-)

    Young people consulted?

    Yes!

Box ticked, suppose we better talk to some women now.

Lothian Buses etc are a breeze, it's the other companies that are a minefield.

Travelling from Edinburgh to Fife with Stagecoach, it is cheaper to buy a ticket which covers unlimited bus journeys in Fife and Edinburgh rather than a return ticket from A to B.

An offpeak return is cheaper than a single. Until I heard a driver asked about it, I had no idea.

“it's the other companies that are a minefield“

But not just for young people, which makes this slightly odd.

threefromleith - true Lothian busses isn't hard. But you don't always know how many journeys you will be making, so need to know in advanced, if you need a day ticket or single ticket. You need to try and find change. They introduce an app for paying, but you need to spend at least 10 pounds on tickets that expire after 6 months and have to decide in advance on Tram or Bus tickets (even although they are the same price)

Not to mention the requirement when purchasing a ticket for the tram to state what your journey will be. Despite all but one stop being in the same fare zone.
