The proposals will transform the approach to the city centre along the West Approach Road, creating a much more attractive gateway to the city centre. It will also bring £15m of new and improved public realm to the city’s West End, transforming facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.”

Part of the big fire legacy on Cowgate and South Bridge was meant to be more through routes. Suddenly these have appeared on the routes behind Costa and Jazz Bar. Wonder why this is now 'permanently closed'? Next close up to Guthrie St via Belle Angel and Mash House is open.

Maybe this is an historic public right of way. Whereas the other is presumably not so.

Yes - the closed route is through private area but was agreed as part of the plan to enhance 'permeability' between the levels. Been open for several years now although not exactly signposted. So now have a locked gate instead. This though will be useful for festival posters and catching discarded rubbish. The laws of unintended consequences never rest!

@LaidBack - worth an email to outdooraccess[at]edinburgh.gov.uk - if there's anything that can be done, then the access officer should be able to help.
