"Is it Nick implicated in today's fake news? Or his successor?"

    Cllr Susan Webber Rainbow

I do hope, with all sincerity that there is no inference in your tweet, that opposition cllrs were anyway involved. We were not

We were not involved in any sense of the meaning of involved unless you are referring to the meaning of involved which suggests it was us indeed nick and me together. As indeed it was us.

    Lesley’s not letting that slide:

Actually someone was. Just had it directly confirmed that the source was a councillor, although I neither asked for nor was given his/her identity.

    Just putting this out there:

    Code of Conduct for Councillors

Honesty You have a duty to act honestly.

And for balance, the Independent Press Standards Organisation's Editors' Code of Practice

    1. Accuracy
    i) The Press must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information or images, including headlines not supported by the text.

ii) A significant inaccuracy, misleading statement or distortion must be corrected, promptly and with due prominence, and — where appropriate — an apology published. In cases involving IPSO, due prominence should be as required by the regulator.

    Here’s the apology:

    https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/transport/parking-ban-story-apology-2897035

Earlier today, the Evening News published an article online suggesting that Edinburgh’s proposed temporary ban on parking on nine high streets had been ‘scrapped’. This is completely wrong.

The article was published in error and later removed from our site when the mistake became clear. We would like to apologise wholeheartedly for this error and the subsequent confusion caused.

An ‘explanation’ and criticism of NC -

I read that as criticism of Lesley Macinnes.

"But not sure using social media to whip up anger"

God forbid anyone use social media for that, Mr McLellan.

Here's a theory. It's not fact checked and possibly bordering on conspiracy.

Webber is on transport committee so highly trained junior reporter at EEN perhaps inclined to believe her. If she wrote the article she likely also told Nick. Could he have been played for a fool in the same way as the paper was?

Mr Cook not so smart and quite possibly not capable of feeling embarrassment. Ms Webber I would not turn my back on. Word on the street is that Mr Cook has trod on a few ill-advised toes.

@acsimpson's theory is amusing. I like it.

“I read that as criticism of Lesley Macinnes.“

You’re right. I just saw it as a response to NC.

Seemed unlikely he was trying to blame Cllr LM

I was being naive (seems to be an obscure the truth operation) -

NC hasn’t tweeted since he had a go at LM. (So no apology, yet.)

He’s just liked this though -

Oh dear, that reporter will have a career reporting "unnamed sources". It should have been easy enough to check.

Gone to the dogs since young David Bol left.

Some personal news: I'm overjoyed to announce that as of June 6th I'll be working full time as a local democracy reporter for the @edinburghpaper! I'll be there until I begin my NCTJ training in Sept, reporting on local politics as well as news stories from across the city

    https://twitter.com/hoffman_noa/status/1266059142810214400

    Question is -

Will EN (and former editor/Tory councillor) let her take all the blame and shield her deceiving ‘source’?

Yes they will say to her - if you want to keep getting our made up stuff to print you cannot name Nick as the source

So the most junior EEN reporter, working under a scheme funded by BBC licence fee payers, gets thrown under the bus by senior Edinburgh Tories and EEN management - who presumably gave them the ability to publish articles directly to the EEN website?

“you are in the right place“

I thought it had all moved to Twitter with an ENews editor complaining about people complaining about the ENews on Twitter...

“Surely more likely because transport infra is devolved?“

Yes, but he also riffed this -

“Now is the moment to strengthen that incredible partnership between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland,” the Prime Minister said in his speech in the West Midlands town of Dudley.

You’d (almost) think he might have asked SG if they’d like a new dual carriageway to go with the bridge to Ireland...

Now is the moment to strengthen that incredible partnership between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland,” the Prime Minister said....

...before installing a complex customs border between Great Britain and Northern Ireland against everyone's will.

This councillor appears to have their hand in with the new intern at the EEN

She was also very quick to deny the source of the fake news was a councillor...

    Hmmm
