    No I don't know it.

I have met her only a few times and on two occasions she has climbed on the bike smoothy machine.

She is much more savvy than Nick

Today of all days Nick is going off on one about Lesley Macinnes trying to provoke a “cycle v motorist culture war”.

Read the room Nick, read the room.

Oh dear. Cllr Cook appears to have suffered a massive pile-on on Twitter. Resulting in him blocking about 50 odd people, including some of his constituents.

    Such a shame

I was toying with this [turning off Twitter notifications] myself. It becomes tiresome being told I wish to see people killed, prior to destroying planet earth itself, of course...

  7. Susan Webber seems to have taken particular glee in using the mute option, and wonders if people get frustrated at not getting a response. Apparently she has not muted accounts that are reasonable, which have differing opinions. Just means she can ignore those ones knowingly.

    Ah well, democracy in action.

    But what about the disabled...?

    Thread:
    https://twitter.com/EEdmondsEEco/status/1282993435994132480?s=20

I am getting very irritated at able bodied people who keep using the disabled as a reason to maintain free car access to places, because I never see them critique any other barrier to access we face and most would actively oppose them if it conflicted with their interests.

Hmm, Darren on that twitter chat states, yes, up to 70% of disabled people do not drive yet the car lobby use them

    I paraphrase slightly

I suppose there is no need to cure a reference as it is up to 70% but would be good to have a reference as it is a very well made point

  10. I've come to the conclusion that Nick enjoys his bad guy role and is playing on it more and more, and then pulling out the 'victim' card.

Tweet from yesterday with a link to a New York Times article, something about 'Twitter Lynch Mobs' running editorial policy.

His retweet then said, "This is old news. It's been running @Edinburgh_CC for years..."

There's someone who works for the COuncil saying the Council is run by 'Twitter Lynch Mobs'. Seriously?

So it's the hard left, cycling lobby, Twitter lynch mob (it was someone else complained of the Taliban), which I guess is easier to demonise and ignore than, 'people who don't want others to die on the roads'.

The Edinburgh Tories official twitter account called the SNP Westminster group “human detritus” yesterday, then swiftly deleted it when called out on it, so they aren’t as pure and polite as they make out.

    @gembo - here you go:

The number of licensed disabled drivers was estimated to be at least 1.9 million (approximately 20% of the 9.5 million disabled adults in Great Britain and the equivalent of 33 drivers with medical conditions per 1,000 GB population or 6% of the licensed population).

TRL report 669: Data gathering on disability and driving statistics - stage 2

So 80% of disabled adults in Britain do not have a driving licence - those that do are disproportionately male and white.

I'm sure that as and when it would help their argument, the very same people who are 'fighting the cause' for disabled people's parking access will claim that there are no disabled people in much the same way as there are never any cyclists using cycle facilities. And in related news:

    Shocking...

Sir Alan Duncan MP, the former minister of state for Europe, was one of several Conservative politicians who opposed a new cycling route over Lambeth Bridge. He said in his response he wanted to protect :a unique remaining Georgian corner of Westminster”.

He said: “TfL’s design work is a blight on London. No adequate thought is ever given to the aesthetics of the streetscape, and the proliferation of a forest of horrid-looking signposts is a disgrace.”

There is little evidence that segregated cycle lanes in London have increased congestion. TfL statistics on cycle superhighway routes have shown they increase efficiency by carrying more people per hour, and congestion is similar to pre-construction levels.

Simon Munk, of the London Cycling Campaign, said: “There is a real failing of political will when it comes to cycling schemes. Too many politicians are effectively mirrors for what their residents say, but there is a particular skew among people that respond to a consultation.

“Who has time to put pins in an online map? Who has time to read through 200 pages of documents? If you live in a wealthy area, you are used to raising your voice and having it heard.”

Cllr Webber expects the “cycle lobby” to deal with people on bikes jumping red lights. I look forward to her also applying the same standard to the “motor lobby”.

And there I was tonight cycling along Slateford Road. Going so fast I even overtook a #Deliveroo cyclist at St Michael’s church. I then had to stop at the red traffic light. But he didn’t feel the need to and cycled right past me. Come on! Wise up cycling lobby. Sort it out

Perhaps regulation of the gig economy by Cllr Webber's colleagues in the the UK Government might be a better place to start. Deliveroo riders might be more inclined to obey the rules if they had a reliable income, rather than trying to squeeze in as many deliveries as possible so they can afford to live.

Traffic lights are only required at all because of motor cars. No cars no red lights no red light jumping.

Edinburgh will never be that flat, geologically impossible and the council won’t fill the pot holes, so, politically impossible

Who knew that people riding bikes lived such care-free idyllic lives, safe from troubles or worries, unlike other hard-working taxpaying law-abiding citizens.

It’s more than that Kevin.... they just don’t care. Disproportionately influenced by a tiny group of people who are far removed from the reality of the life and challenges that most of us deal with
