CCE Calendar?

    Here's an idea for the hive mind...

    Is there a way of CCE having a public calendar where we can read about all the upcoming events.

    I'm conscious that last night's beers caught me a little by surprised as it wasn't mentioned on the forum for a little while.

    I'm not a techy, so no idea what platform it should be on, but something that allowed you to categorise the events into something like socials, public events, consultation deadlines etc.

    Obviously it would be beholden on us to make it work by putting in useful dates/events.

    What do we reckon?

    I also had no idea, but as it was spent it trapped on a train anyway. A google calendar is super easy to set up for these things but harder to co-ordinate who is "responsible" for owning/updating it.

    Bit relieved, as when I saw the thread title I thought it might be for a CCE Naked Fundraising calendar.

    If you set up a Google calendar you can designate other people to have editor access too. Plus you can set permissions so that anyone can add it to their own Google calendar e.g. on a phone.
    Things like Spokes rides etc could probably be put on a recurring event, reducing the admin to maintain.

    So I think my original thought was that a google calander would work but at some point it needs to be owned by someone and they then need to give out permissions explicitly which adds a lot of friction, instead I'm wondering if it would make sense to setup a cycling version of the Open Tech Calendar

    I would be happy to host it alongside the forum, it has the options to provide feeds of events so that events can appear in your google calendars (or your favourite electronic calendar), in addition, I think that it would be relatively easy to add a link to the cucoming events to the sidebar?

    Not a post, but yes. Would also be possible to do that from a google calendar.

    I think someone a few years back did an open cycling calendar but it had the problem that people didn't add stuff to it, and so people didn't bother using it and it kind of died a death.

    I think these things work better with one or two really dedicated people who are prepared to keep it up to date (and find people to take it over once they have had enough) to the point where it becomes so useful that people will be willing to keep it up

    OTOH if all you want to do is remind people of CCE Beers, PYs and POPs, then a simple google calendar with one or two admins and a sidebar widget would probably be enough
