    The way it’s going and the feeling in the air is something has to change or Edinburgh is going to end up with lynch mobs after these young thugs

    That doesn't sound very likely.

    Mr Crolla said officers told him drug gangs are now turning to lucrative bike theft expecting little chance of
punishment.

    Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 has been a bane on the country my entire life, wrecking lives and empowering and enriching psychopaths. Any sane government would repeal it as a matter of urgency.

    not that you'd expect much different from ENN, but that's not the Bike & Spanner in their picture, its Alpine Bikes on Hamilton Place. B&S is on Comely Bank Ave.

    I feel sorry for Mr. Crolla. However possibly leaving four grand's worth of bike locked up outside is not a great idea? Not much you can do if they break the door down with an axe right enough: maybe thread hefty chains through the more valuable frames when shop is closed?

    Something not entirely connected but this thread is as good place to mention as any,

    Did you hear about the time someone tried to rob the LB shop when it was in Marchmont Crescent?
    Guy came up stairs to my back 'pulpit' office and demanded money around 6.30 one evening in 2015.
    I refused and he presented a knife. I then pushed said intruder backwards down the stairs and I ran off a bit shaken to Earl pub. Police were summoned from there. Dazed intruder walked by window of pub. Can't go into any more details but he was caught and a report was sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
    He was named in the Evening News (2015) and pleaded guilty to several offences.
    I could have got it into paper but decided it was not something that had any great benefit. Of course headlines would have been great but wondered if it might have attracted more of the wrong sort. Guys at Bicycle Works and some Marchmonites still mention it. The former in a 'P*** taking' kind of way :-)
    Almost all shops in Marchmont had been stolen from and I think the guy didn't know I was in when he got to back office. Maybe just hoping to nip off with my 2007 MacBook or a carbon neckrest. Was a bit frightening of course and still makes me wary.

    @LaidBack

    Horrible. Daniel Johnston MSP is currently campaigning to tighten the law on assaults on retail premises, though to what end I know not.

    @LaidBack - urgh. Personal threats are... very personal. Even if you suspect you-as-the-target was random.

    @chdot - a gang of vigilantes over at Spokes Facebook have decided that the charged teenager is guilty and will get an inadequate punishment.
