"We are not a bike shop, we do not sell bikes or offer servicing, instead we teach anyone and everyone how to repair, clean and maintain their own bike(s), at home."

    Interesting!

    Working link (hopefully): http://bellfieldbicycle.co.uk/

Was news to me today too. Bellfield is a church that has been bought by the Porty Community as a space for groups and (it would appear) businesses to use.

At the risk of stating the obvious, my guess is that this is someone local who has set up a businesses teaching bike maintenance and is using Bellfield as a regular venue, and borrowed the name. No idea who though, but lots of cyclists in Porty.

  5. Hi All, just thought i would clarify the mystery around “who” bellfield bicycle is, my name is Niall, i am a mechanic and have worked in the industry for almost 15 years, i live in Portobello and have been involved with the re-opening of Bellfield as a community space.

I will be teaching full day (10-3) bike maintenance classes every 2nd Saturday until the end of this year.

I am teaching the basics (wheel removal, punctures, chain and cassette replacement, gear and brake set-up and adjustment, best practice for oiling and cleaning).

If you are interested or know anyone who might be keen then please check out the website!

I also plan at some stage to have an open workshop, where tools will be available for people to use and I will be there should anyone need advice with a particular task (this is the non-business, community aspect...)

And yes, I will be adding a profile to the website so people know who is teaching the classes.

    Thanks :)

  6. Oh and interestingly I came up with the idea in 2012, along with the name as I grew up on the street, long before the venue was bought over. It is a brilliant space with huge community potential. Very exciting to be part of it and see where it will go.
