Just saw that there's a reshuffle on.

Am tempted to say that if Humza Yousaf is moved (as seems likely), we will miss him?

That's fair. Dare we hope for a dyed in the wool active travel proponent as successor?

If he moves, it's unlikely his successor will like Yousaf's plans as much as Yousaf did.

How much less will, of course, depend on the successor. If it's just another one of the SNP's long line of car-obsessed climate change deniers, then pavement parkers will be dancing in the street.

(Because there's no room to dance on the pavement... it's blocked by a 4x4.)

As I recall people here (pointing no elbows) were distinctly unenthused about Humza when he was landed with the transport portfolio.

Michael Matheson is new Cabinet Secretary for Transport.

    Humza is off to Justice.

So Transport is now a cabinet-level position?

    Interesting piece.

Implying that HY might be a ‘hard act to follow, but maybe that NS wants a different emphasis.

A key area remains getting Scots to use their cars less, and switch to public transport, cycling and walking more. Mr Yousaf went out on a limb here in some respects, publicly criticising SNP councils who abandoned segregated cycle lanes, which are seen as crucial to encouraging more riders, and vetoing the closure of a rail station in West Lothian with three passengers a week.

Back in the day education was run by the Scotch Education Department. Perhaps that will be revived in the new UK Government in Scotland hub at Waverley?

    Missed that one!

Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland to join UK Government Edinburgh hub

The new hub at New Waverley, Edinburgh, which will deliver significant growth to the city by moving 2,900 civil servants into the city centre premises in 2020.

    Moving them from where?

Hope they’ve got the bike parking sorted.

    From the Hootsmon article:

    ---

It doesn’t bode particularly well that Mr Matheson’s first ministerial visit on Wednesday was to the Traffic Scotland control centre in South Queensferry, from where he posted a video message that only referred to the road network. According to official records, Mr Matheson appears to have stuck to the ministerial limo in his last job and has made no official trips by public transport in recent months. We’ll see whether that changes.

And affordable homes and a segregated cycle network. Be good to have firm British government at last.

    Something that's always bugged me...

Why is it not just a shuffle? You never reshuffle a pack of cards, you just shuffle them!

New Waverley. Formerly known as Caltongate.

Presume the new "hub" is that mahoosive office building they are building on New Street, opposite CEC HQ. Nice views of Calton Hill, Governor's House and the old prison rebuilt as St Andrew's House. Plenty of opportunities for UK civil servants to look down condescendingly at local authority minions next door, and long range staring competitions between rival civil servants in the UK and Scottish governments - sorry, I meant the close proximity between these three branches of officialdom will doubtless foster a spirit of close co-operation.

    @Harts

You reshuffle a pack of cards when the first shuffle is a failure

    Makes perfect sense to me
