Friends of Roseburn Park have a survey open on whether the toilet block beside the wiggle in the path should be demolished or turned into a cafe.

(My vote would be to demolish and then encourage a coffee van like the one in Victoria Park to plonk itself beside the new play park)

I am shortly setting up a petition - just wanting signatures of support plus optional comments and maybe location of signer - can that be an optional question?
Any petition provider recommendations?

Indeed. There is apparently a fix coming so you don’t need to sign in to continue. I’ve not signed yet.

A cafe would be great there.
I'd prefer the building to be saved and motor vehicles discouraged.
Appreciate maintenance costs, silly council rents etc could make that prohibitive.

How about resuscitating it as a toilet block?

A cafe would need a toilet.
Council could offer a low rent if public toilets were provided by cafe operator?

It would be nice to have a cafe there but I'm not convinced saving the building would be worthwhile. It's not attractive or big enough to warrant the investment IMO. I assume red tape prohibits demolition and building something new?

It's in an awkward spot and I don't think it's got much architectural merit. I'd tear it down.
A cafe sounds a bit ambitious for the spot. A van like the one they have at Saughton Park for ice-creams and take-away coffees seems a bit more feasible. Saughton has far more attractions than Roseburn.
I went to the seat ribbon-cutting on Saturday and there was talk about getting water to come out of the water fountain, which would be a good thing. The UK suffers generally from lack of water fountains.

The comment on Facebook when I said that it wasn't near the play park was "but it's beside the table tennis table". Which I've never seen in use. It's not a nice building - I'd always be imagining the faint whiff of pee even after renovation. Plus the windows are tiny (of course).

its only a few hundred metres to the road in either direction a van could easily be parked on the bit of road before the ice rink car park.

There a few people who I've seen using the TT table semi-regularly during summer. Never seen the chess table used though.

The spirit of the age demands that the toilet block become either luxury flats or a server farm for the new Rosecoin crypto-currency.
Posted 6 years ago # -
Is there no demand from students?
Stickman, Shall I bring a set of pieces to POP next year and rectify that?
Posted 6 years ago # -
@acsimpson - could possibly use the block to house a Deep Blue style chess computer and invite people to take it on?
Posted 6 years ago # -
@LivD - the playground is supposed to be moved to the north side of the park, which makes sense, as its present location isn't attractive.
I take it that sporties who turn up to play cricket or football have toilets in their changing rooms?

Perhaps IWRATS' Rosecoin server farm will have enough processing power spare to run the chess system too.

Rosecoin: local currency for local people. Can only be spent by drivers.

@Rosie - yes I saw on their Facebook that they have just started work on the new site. Looking forward to being dragged there regularly by my 3yo!
A coffee van at the east end of the park (nearest Roseburn) would make the whole visit much more civilised.

New play park opened officially yesterday. Looking forward to our visits. :)

Door of the toilets had been broken in this morning when I gingerly rode past.
Posted 6 years ago # -
@steveo
Sustrans will fix that door for £350,000.
Posted 6 years ago # -
@IWRATS Jest not. Roseburn's Reactionary was suggesting Sustrans pay for a waste system instead of a cycle route.

Friends of Roseburn Park have secured funding to convert the toilet block into a cafe.
This has reignited the discussion about how to prevent any incidents between passing cyclists and builders/pedestrians/queuing customers at the narrow point between the buildings.
I made the suggestion that extending the cycle lane on the A8 to the Chinese embassy would remove the majority of speedy cyclists...
Posted 3 years ago # -
@Hankchief, That's the only logical thing to do.
Certainly more sensible than moving the door to the opposite side of the building so that all customers have to enter via the grass.
Posted 3 years ago # -
@hankchief, are all the speedy cyclists heading for the Chinese Embassy?
That toilet door swings open it will take an eye out of a dog Walker.
