    Hello all,
I'm looking at a cycle ride for novice cyclists on road bikes and considered the canal towpath between slateford and ratho, can anyone advise what the surface is like? Would it be suitable for road bikes on skinny tyres?
    Thanks, Smudge :-)

Hello smudge good to hear from you.

The surface is paved all the way to Ratho. You can cycle on it on skinny tyres the aqueduct isn't great for skinny tyres. But you can start at the park behind the canal at longstone.

The wee bridges are a bit of a pain for drop handles bars. There is a stretch after Heriot Watt to Ratho of newish paved track. Without bridges.

    Should be fine
